He played in Baltimore and New York. He had an incredible knack for getting on base and has the second-most home runs for someone his size (5-7) or shorter. He played 10 seasons; give him another seven or eight and hed be right up there with Rogers Hornsby and Joe Morgan. ?-- SchoenfieldHe won the inaugural Rookie of the Year award in 1947. He won an MVP in 1949. He helped lead the Dodgers (the Brooklyn version) to the boroughs only World Series title. And he did most of it under the most trying of circumstances. He has been mythologized, but if anything, he was exceptionally -- and an exceptional -- human. Theres a reason no one in baseball can wear No. 42.
