Controversial sports scientist Stephen Dank has failed to provide documents requested by the AFL appeals board after missing his hearing.Dank did not attend Mondays opening day of his appeal against a life ban for doping offences related to the Essendon supplements saga.Instead, Dank sent a letter to the appeals board through his former lawyers, saying he could not attend because of a family medical emergency. The three-man board adjourned the hearing while ordering Dank to provide details about the medical emergency including the hospital, the date of his relatives admission and a report from the treating doctor. But a AFL spokesman said Dank had failed to provide the requested documents by Fridays 5pm deadline. The Appeal Board is expected to provide its ruling on the non-submission next week, the spokesman said. The AFL will await that ruling.Lawyers representing the AFL and ASADA on Monday could barely contain their scorn at Danks late request to adjourn, saying the appeal should be thrown out. There is no court in the state that wouldve tolerated the way in which Dank has conducted this case and himself throughout this process, AFL counsel Renee Enbom said in her submission. It is time to bring this process to an end. Everyone involved, including the players, are entitled to some finality.A defiant Dank vowed late on Monday that he still intended to appear and that Jobe Watson would have his surrendered Brownlow Medal back by the time his hearing was over.My most desired outcome, of course, is for everyone to be cleared, Dank said on fiveAA radio.Unfortunately, players have served suspensions so that time cant be given back to the players ... but I think by the time weve finished this hearing, Jobe will have his Brownlow back.Watson was one of 34 past and present Bombers players banned for the 2016 season for violations of the anti-doping code arising from the clubs 2012 supplements program.A key figure in the saga, Dank was banned for life from working in any sport in Australia or overseas after the AFL anti-doping tribunal found him guilty of 10 anti-doping code breaches. Barcelona also left injured defenders Carles Puyol, Javier Mascherano and Jordi Alba out of its squad for the trip to Glasgow. That means that Marc Bartra will probably start again in the centre of the defence alongside Gerard Pique. Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has revealed a childrens book was one of the driving forces behind the Dogs inspired run to the 2016 AFL premiership. The book, Salty Dog, was given to Beveridge by football chief Graham Lowe at the start of a season that culminated in the Bulldogs first premiership since 1954.I was reading through this book and ... its about confronting your fears, Beveridge told Fox Footys On The Couch. As I read each page it was quite simple, its like a childrens book, but it had really powerful messages in there. So we had 100 copies printed and had our logo printed on the back ... and we gave each player a book. We talked about the content and to our players credit they confronted their fears. All year, every time there was a trial or a tribulation, they met it head on.So powerful was the message, along with other themes that Beveridge declined to divulge, that by the time the Dogs reached the grand final they had already conquered their fears. In the end, part of going into the grand final was bringing it back to what theyd already done, Beveridge said of a season in which his club confronted a horror run with injuries.ddddddddddddAnd on the last page it says Run towards the fire and they were basically in the fire.Theyd met all of their challenges head on, the grand final was as hot as it was going to get and they were ready for it.Most associated with the Dogs have been reluctant to declare the grand final win over Sydney the start of a dynasty. But Beveridge is already focused on making sure Bulldogs fans dont have to wait another 62 years to see their team lift the cup. Were definitely not in a space to think that were the best (team) even though weve just won the grand final, he said of his team that finished the home-and-away season seventh with 15 wins.Theres still plenty of work to do so it will take a concerted effort by everyone to make sure that we keep our feet on the ground. When our players go away on holiday they need to make sure they keep themselves in good order - thats their big test.
