Louisville starts its four-game stint in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament on Thursday afternoon against Long Beach State (1-2) at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky.The 12th-ranked Cardinals (2-0), will play Long Beach on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. before flying to Paradise Island, Bahamas, for the rest of the three games in the tournament. The Cardinals will play Old Dominion in the Bahamas on Nov. 23, either LSU or Wichita State on Nov. 24 and probably Michigan State on Nov. 25.The Cardinals might have to play without star sophomore guard Donovan Mitchell, who came down with a fever on Wednesday.I wouldnt say hes doubtful, but hes not going to be 100 percent, coach Rick Pitino said.Pitino said sophomore Deng Adel and freshman V.J. King are preparing to play together as interchangeable players at the 2 and 3 spots in Louisvilles system. If Donovans not capable of playing, we have to go with different people, Pitino said. I dont know if wed start that way because you dont want them to get in foul trouble and not have a backup (at small forward).Despite Mitchells fever, Louisville is a heavy favorite vs. Long Beach as the 49ers are coming off back-to-back blowout losses at Wichita State (92-55) and at North Carolina (93-67).This game will help us get better, coach Dan Monson of Long Beach State said after the loss to North Carolina. Hopefully Thursday (vs. Louisville) will, too.Long Beach States schedule has ranked in the top three nationally in each of the last four years, including leading the nation both in 2012-13 and last season. The 49ers could be among the nations leaders this season as well with early-season games vs. Wichita State, North Carolina, Louisville, UCLA, Washington, Florida Gulf Coast and Kansas.Long Beach State, the favorite to win the Big West Conference in a preseason media vote, returns two preseason All-Big West players, 5-foot-8 junior guard Justin Bibbins and 6-7 junior forward Gabe Levin. The 49ers added 6-1 junior guard Evan Payne, a transfer from Loyola Marymount who averaged 18.0 points per game as a sophomore for the Lions. So far, not so good for that new 49er lineup.Long Beach State is shooting only 21.2 percent so far this season from three-point range and getting out-scored by an average of 9.0 points per game.Louisville, on the other hand, has an average margin of victory of 32 points and is shooting 46.7 percent from the field while out-rebounding its first two opponents by 15.0 rebounds per game. The Cardinals and 49ers have played twice before, with Louisville winning both meetings, 79-66 on Nov. 28, 2011, and 63-48 on Dec. 30, 2014. Jim Barr Jersey . "It doesnt get any better than that," Giambi said. "Im speechless." The Indians are roaring toward October. Giambi belted a two-run, pinch-hit homer with two outs in the ninth inning to give Cleveland a shocking 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night, keeping the Indians up with the lead pack in the AL wild-card race. Alex Dickerson Jersey . After taking two big hits this week -- losing at home and dropping back-to-back games for the first time all season -- Indiana struck back by playing its most complete game of the year. https://www.cheapjerseysgiants.us/416u-gary-carter-jersey-giants.html .Y. -- Syracuse has turned up the defence at the right time all season, and when High Point threatened to pull off a monumental upset the second-ranked Orange did what they do best with their quick hands and savvy play. Ernie Lombardi Jersey . LOUIS -- Mike Smith is used to facing plenty of shots, so this was nothing new. Dereck Rodriguez Jersey . -- Former San Diego Chargers safety Paul Oliver was found dead at his Atlanta-area home Tuesday night, and a medical examiner said Wednesday that the ex-player committed suicide. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- A week ago, Iowa was trying to figure if there was any way to bounce back from a stunning blowout loss at Penn State. The Hawkeyes (6-4, 4-3 Big Ten) found the answer with a 14-13 win over Michigan that was as unexpected as the 27-point loss to the Nittany Lions.I guarantee it, none of us expected that outcome, Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said of the Penn State game as his team prepared to face Illinois this Saturday. And then conversely, there are probably not a lot of people expecting the outcome we got the other night.Illinois (3-7, 2-5) finds itself in a spot similar to the one the Hawkeyes were in a week ago, looking for a way back after a 48-3 loss at Wisconsin. The game was bad enough that Illini coach Lovie Smith said watching game film wouldnt do his team any good.I didnt spend a whole lot of time on it. You guys saw it -- not much to get from it, Smith said. Both teams are in the Big Ten West but they havent played much over the past decade. Before Iowas wins the past two seasons, the last time Illinois faced Iowa was 2008. That was also the last Illini win in the series, 27-24.Some things to watch for when they meet again Saturday in Champaign:TURNING IT OVEROne of Iowas clear advantages is its ability to hang onto the ball. The Hawkeyes have given the ball away just seven times this season -- six of them interceptions -- while forcing 14 turnovers. This is an area where Illinois was strong early in the season but has lately struggled. Over the past four games the Illini have given up nine turnovers -- including four interceptions in the Wisconsin loss -- and forced just two.QB RETURNSIllinois starting quarterback Wes Lunt is expected to start his first game since suffering a back injjury Oct.dddddddddddd 8 against Purdue. He played for the first time since the injury when he relieved Jeff George Jr. last week against the Badgers. Lunt says he wondered for a time if he might have played his last college football.I think after the initial (hit), when it happened, I was kind of worried about that, said Lunt, who stayed on the turf for several minutes after the hit by Purdues Danny Ezechukwu.NOVEMBER CHILLGames in Champaign this fall have been played in warm, mild weather, but Saturday should be different. The National Weather Service forecasts a high of 43 with gusty winds up to 18 mph.Looks like were going to have Big Ten weather, Ferentz said. Im guessing it will be a tough, gritty game.ON OFFENSEBoth teams have run-heavy offenses, and the weather figures to give both an incentive to stick to the ground. But theres a chance the teams will pile up some big rushing yards. Neither defense is much of a run-stopper -- Illinois allows 209 rushing yards a game, 11th in Big Ten, while Iowa gives up 168.7 yards and is ranked 10th.IOWA INJURIESFerentz said that starting cornerback Greg Mabin and starting right tackle Cole Croston will both be out with injuries. Mabins season is done due to a leg fracture, but his replacement, freshman Manny Rugamba, had a strong first game against the Wolverines.Manny didnt have a lot of time to think about it, that may be good. I dont know if it dawned on him how good the guys he was going to be competing with were, Ferentz said.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org---Follow David Mercer on Twitter: (at)davidmercerAP ' ' '
