SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Paul Goydos shot a 3-under 67 on Saturday to take a two-stroke lead into the final round of the PGA Tour Champions season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship.A day after opening with a 62 for a three-stroke lead, Goydos birdied the par-5 18th to reach 11-under 129 on Desert Mountain Clubs Cochise Course.I was happy. It was a nice day, Goydos said. The wind had calmed down a little bit. It seems to be windy in the morning here and better in the afternoon. Playing goods an advantage to some extent.Colin Montgomerie, third in the Charles Schwab Cup season standings, remained second. He followed his opening 65 with a 66. The Scot matched playing partner Goydos with a closing birdie.Points leader Bernhard Langer was third at 7 under after a 66.The top five in the standings -- Richmond winner Scott McCarron is second, followed by Montgomerie, Joe Durant and Miguel Angel Jimenez -- can take the season title with a victory Sunday. Durant was tied for 15th at 1 under after a 69, McCarron was tied for 17th at even par after a 71, and Jimenez was 22nd at 1 over after a 67.The season standings were reset after the event last week in Virginia, with Langers lead over McCarron reduced from 935,657 to 200. The tournament winner will receive $440,000 and 2,000 points.I just know that theres a bunch of possibilities, like we imagined, and here we are, Langer said. I guess right now if it stands like this, Monty and I would be tied and were going to a playoff. But will it stand that way tomorrow, nobody knows. I dont know. Its certainly exciting, its volatile. You know, it comes down the stretch. The 59-year-old German has a tour-high four victories and has wrapped up the season money title with $2,836,459. He won season titles in 2010, 2014 and 2015. Hes recovering from a left knee injury that forced him to withdraw from the playoff opener at Sherwood. Its been the same for the last two weeks, just being very careful walking, Langer said. I cant read my putts properly because I cant bend down the way I used to. But my goal is to finish the tournament, not to read my putts properly. Obviously, I would love to read them right, but if that would kick me out of the tournament, thats no good, so Ive just got to do what Ive got to do.Goydos is 24th in the standings. The two-time PGA Tour winner won the Dicks Sporting Goods Open in July for his third senior title. He shot a 59 in the PGA Tours 2010 John Deere Classic.Ive gotten off to good starts and, hopefully, I can continue that tomorrow, Goydos said. A little sloppy on the back nine, quite frankly. But Im Paul Goydos, Im not Bernhard Langer, as Ive proven time after time after time after time. But I hung in there pretty good. Made a couple birdies on the 5 pars, which is nice, and looking forward to playing tomorrow. Erik Gustafsson Jersey . The quest begins with what is supposed to be an easy one, although Germany has traditionally been a stubborn opponent to Canadian teams at international tournaments. OXFORD, Miss. -- No. 19 Mississippi got exactly what it needed Saturday in a relatively boring, lopsided victory.Playing just five days after an emotional loss to Florida State, quarterback Chad Kelly threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Rebels to a 38-13 victory over Wofford of the Football Championship Subdivision level.Ole Miss (1-1) didnt look tired despite the short turnaround, scoring on all four of its first-half drives to take a 24-3 halftime lead. The Rebels didnt need to punt until late in the third quarter when the game was well in hand.I thought our kids came out with an edge, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said. Especially on offense.Kelly completed short touchdown throws in the first half to Markell Pack, D.K. Metcalf and Quincy Adeboyejo, and Gary Wunderlich made a 40-yard field goal as the Rebels methodically moved the ball against the overmatched Terriers. It was an efficient, mistake-free performance from Kelly, who threw three interceptions and lost a fumble in the Florida State loss. He completed 20 of 27 passes against Wofford. We were anxious to get that first win, Kelly said. The only bad news for the Rebels was when Metcalf, a 6-foot-4 freshman who has quickly earned a role as one of the teams top receivers, broke his left foot in the second quarter. He also caught a touchdown pass in the Florida State game.Freeze said he wasnt sure how much time Metcalf would miss, but its possible the injury could end his season.Ole Miss has already struggled with injuries this year. Starting cornerback Kendarius Webster and running back Eric Swinney both tore knee ligaments in the Florida State game and are done for the season.Ole Miss announced a crowd of 64,232, which is a stadium record. The Rebels spent about $60 million on offseason renovations to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, which included roughly 5,000 new seats after bowling in the north side of the stadium.Wofford (1-1) moved the ball effectively at times, butt couldnt find the end zone until the fourth quarter, when quarterback Brad Butler ran for a 17-yard touchdown.ddddddddddddSAVING PATTERSON?Freeze pulled a minor surprise on Saturday when he used redshirt freshman Jason Pellerin as the backup quarterback instead of true freshman Shea Patterson. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Pellerin completed 2 of 3 passes for 23 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also ran for a touchdown.Patterson was widely regarded as one of the nations top quarterback recruits last year, but Freeze left open the possibility that Patterson might redshirt this fall in order to save him for future seasons when Kelly, a senior, is no longer with the program.Hes certainly talented enough to play, Freeze said. But we discussed it this week, and playing him in mop-up duty is probably not the smartest thing at this juncture.QUOTABLEWofford coach Mike Ayres, who is in his 29th season leading the program, had a unique way of describing his teams growth so far this season: Were close. Were like that fat guy thats got one leg over the fence and hes close. Hes working to get that second leg over. Its tough, but its not quite there. Thats where we are. We didnt have a great day.THE TAKEAWAYWofford: The Terriers triple-option offense was decent, but finding the end zone was difficult against an SEC defense. Wofford has a 1-19 record against Football Bowl Subdivision teams.Ole Miss: The Rebels got what they needed -- an easy win. Now they can turn their attention to a marquee SEC game against Alabama in Oxford next weekend.UP NEXTWofford: The Terriers return home to face Johnson C. Smith.Ole Miss: The Rebels host Alabama after beating the Tide in each of the past two seasons.-----Follow David Brandt on Twitter: www.twitter.com/davidbrandtAP .
