ue, Georgia State President Mark Becker noted. It was built for 1996 Olympic Games, was home to the Atlanta Braves and will now Antworten

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson underwent surgery on Thursday for a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee, and the team issued a statement saying that there were no additional injuries or issues noted in or surrounding the knee joint during the surgical procedure. The Vikings said Petersons rehabilitation process will begin immediately. The 31-year-old Peterson opted for a full repair of his meniscus, rather than a trim that could have had him back in several weeks, after consulting with family and advisers. He has often said he believes he can play until his mid-30s, and his decision to have his meniscus fully repaired suggests he is planning to return in 2017. The full repair also lessens the risk of reinjury, as well as exposure to the possibility of arthritis. On Wednesday, a source told ESPN that Peterson also had a torn lateral collateral ligament. The Vikings had denied that, and Peterson texted ESPNs Josina Anderson saying, no torn LCL.Peterson, who was injured Sunday, told ESPN on Wednesday that he had a bucket handle tear of the meniscus, which typically has a minimum recovery time of three to four months. The Vikings did not issue a timetable for Petersons return on Thursday.Peterson slightly twisted his knee at the end of a 5-yard run Sunday against the Packers. His right foot was briefly stuck under the upper leg of Kyler Fackrell as the Packers linebacker brought him to the ground. Peterson left with 3:32 to play in the third quarter. The 2015 NFL rushing leader hobbled off the field with the assistance of athletic trainers. After being examined on the sideline, Peterson hopped through a field-level club at the teams new stadium toward the Vikings locker room and was later seen using crutches with a large black brace around the knee.He had a devastating left knee injury in 2011 -- tearing both his ACL and MCL -- only to bounce back and rush for 2,097 yards in the 2012 regular season to win league MVP honors.Jerick McKinnon will be the starting running back, and Matt Asiata will serve as the backup against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The running backs combined for 1,108 rushing yards in 2014 while Peterson missed 15 games because of NFL discipline. In addition, the Vikings signed free-agent rusher Ronnie Hillman and placed starting left tackle Matt Kalil on injured reserve with a lingering hip injury that needs surgery and will cause him to miss the rest of the 2016 season.Hillman, who worked out for the San Diego Chargers on Wednesday, started 10 games for the Denver Broncos last season and rushed for a career-high 863 yards and seven touchdowns. He spent four seasons with the Broncos, totaling 1,845 rushing yards. The injury to Peterson is the latest blow to the Vikings. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater tore multiple knee ligaments on Aug. 30, and the team started the season with two quarterbacks after trading for Bradford on Sept. 3. The Vikings, though, are 2-0 and in sole possession of first place in the NFC North.Theyre resilient. Theyre tough. Theyre competitive, coach Mike Zimmer said. Obviously weve had a few setbacks, but I think we can go back to last year and think about some of the things that happened. Were not the type of team thats going to sit back and cry about whats happened. Were going to go forward. Try, like Ive said before, to find a way.Peterson, who has rushed for 50 yards on 31 carries this season, would carry a cap hit of $18 million for the Vikings into the 2017 season. If Peterson and the Vikings dont renegotiate the contract, a big decision would need to be made before the third day of the league year, when Peterson is due a $6 million bonus. If the Vikings choose to cut him before then, they would owe him nothing further and take no cap hit in 2017 as theres no guaranteed money in his $11.75 million base salary.ESPNs Ben Goessling contributed to this report. The FA rejected Wilsheres appeal that the length of his punishment was "clearly excessive" and said Thursday his suspension begins with immediate effect. Badenhop was 2-3 with a 3.47 ERA in 63 relief appearances for Milwaukee this season. He is 18-20 in his career with three saves and a 3. ATLANTA -- Turner Field, the home of the Atlanta Braves and the 1996 Olympics, will get its third life when Georgia State University converts it to a college football stadium, Atlanta city leaders said Thursday. The deal involves new commercial development and improvements to streets and neighborhoods on the citys south side, an area that has struggled as other parts of the city blossomed.Speaking outside Turner Field, near a bronze statue of Hall of Famer Hank Aaron, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said the monuments presence was fitting.Hank Aaron helped unify a city -- and a country -- with one swing of his mighty bat at the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, Reed said. The project will give an economic boost to the five neighborhoods that surround Turner Field, Reed said.It represents a new beginning for the entire southeast quadrant of our city, he said.Discussions about the redevelopment project began after the Atlanta Braves announced plans to leave Turner Field and build a new stadium about 15 miles away in Atlantas northwest suburbs. This the last season for the Braves at Turner Field.Officials announced a signed purchase and sale agreement between Georgia State and the real estate firms Carter U.S.A. and Oakwood Development Group. Details of the financing werent immediately available, though Reed has toold reporters that Georgia State has committed at least $200 million toward redevelopment of the 70-acre site.ddddddddddddWith the redevelopment project, Turner Field will now get its third life as a college football venue, Georgia State President Mark Becker noted. It was built for 1996 Olympic Games, was home to the Atlanta Braves and will now become the home field of the Georgia State Panthers.Georgia State, with more than 53,000 students, is one of the nations largest universities. Its main campus is in the heart of downtown Atlanta, just north of Turner Field. The overall project will also involve building a new baseball field, student housing, shops and restaurants nearby. The project presents an opportunity to develop a world-class mixed use community, said Scott Taylor, president of the Carter firm.Reed noted that the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, which once stood next-door to Turner Field, was known as the launching pad by home-run hitters who felt that its elevation of more than 1,000 feet above sea level helped balls soar out of the park.Turner Field becomes a different kind of launching pad, Reed said.---Information from: WSB-TV, http://www.wsbtv.com/index.html ' ' '
