DALLAS -- The Vancouver Canucks and Dallas Stars used to be Pacific Division bunkmates. And even though they are now in separate divisions, battles between these former division rivals are always spirited affairs.Vancouver and Dallas last met on Nov. 13 at Rogers Arena with the Canucks taking the full two points thanks to a 5-4 overtime win. That victory is one of just four Vancouver (8-10-2) has had this month, along with seven losses. But the Canucks, who are 2-6-1 on the road, got their second road victory of the season Tuesday night in Glendale, a 4-1 win against the Arizona Coyotes. And after such a strong performance in their second win of the month against Arizona, the Canucks like their chances of coming into American Airlines Center on Friday and leaving with at least a point against the Stars. We came out strong in the third, we didnt sit back, Canucks center Bo Horvat said after Tuesdays win. We kept the pace going, we kept it on them, and it turned out great for us tonight.Horvats line, which also features Sven Baertschi and Alexandre Burrows, accounted for an impressive eight points in that road win against the Coyotes. And that performance, along with several other recent strong showings by that trio, has not gone unnoticed by Canucks coach Willie Desjardins, a former Stars assistant.Ive liked that line for three or four games, Desjardins said. I think (Burrows) helps them. He talks to them a lot, helps them prepare for shifts. And the other two guys have lots of talent. The Canucks currently have a minus-17 goal differential, making them one of only two teams in the Western Conference who currently have a worse differential than the Stars, who are minus-16.Dallas (8-8-5) is 5-7-1 in November and on Wednesday night the Stars lost 5-2 to the Nashville Predators in the Music City.At home, the Stars are 5-3-2 this season, including going 2-1-1 during a recently-concluded four-game homestand earlier this week.Despite seeing his team lose to a Central Division foe by three goals, Stars coach Lindy Ruff saw plenty of positives to take from their loss in Nashville. You build off a lot of the good stuff you did in the game -- and there was a lot of good stuff in the game, Ruff said postgame. Our energy was good. I thought the second period on where our breakouts were coming on our own end was good; cleaned up a few mistakes.Dallas has gotten at least a point in 11 straight games against Vancouver and the Stars have defeated the Canucks six straight times in Dallas. And if the Stars are to extend their run of recent dominance over the Canucks, then they must play better in the third period than they did in Nashville.Dallas hit the ice on Wednesday down 2-0 to the Predators, but cut that lead in half when Patrick Sharp scored his first goal of the season 5:32 into the final frame. However, Nashville regained its two-goal edge 37 seconds later and went up 4-2 with another goal five minutes later.Sharp speaks for his teammates in saying that if Dallas is to climb out of the middle of the pack in the Central and in the West, better third periods need to become a regular thing.Yeah, disappointing third period, Sharp said. We kind of put ourselves in a good spot there on the road trailing by one against a tough team. Its not a bad spot to be in, but a couple of mistakes ended up being the difference in the game.Lazar Markovic Liverpool Jersey . Now, he has to take that small step and make it into the top 30 in points, the cutoff to become eligible for NASCARs postseason.I absolutely think we can get into the top 30, the rookie said Friday before practice on the road course at Watkins Glen. We really shouldnt have been out of it.Buescher emerged from the fog at Pocono on Monday to become the surprising winner in a shortened Cup race, compliments of a race strategy call by Bob Osborne, veteran crew chief of the No. 34 for Front Row Motorsports. Before his breakthrough victory, Bueschers best finish this season?had been 14th.Osborne took a gamble and kept Buescher on track while others made pit stops with 28 laps left. Once the cars were halted because of the weather, the fog and rain settled in and Buescher was declared the winner. The victory left him 31st in the points standings, six points behind David Ragan for 30th as the teams prepare for Sundays Cheez-It 355 at The Glen.Ragan was the driver who won Front Rows first race at Talladega in May 2013, 118 races ago. Ragan also helped Buescher get his career off the ground by setting him up with living arrangements, signing him to his Legends car team as a development driver and connecting him with Roush Fenway Racing. The irony of the moment is not lost on Buescher. Its funny for me, he said. David Ragan has been a huge help for me my entire career. His whole family has. Weve got to pass him now, try to outrun him. Its not going to just be him. Theres going to be a handful of them that were going to have to outrun. It just so happens that one of them is the guy that mentored me through a lot of the early stages of my stock car career. The 23-year-old Buescher is the first Cup rookie to win a race since Joey Logano at New Hampshire in 2009, and his first NASCAR victory came on a road course -- at Mid-Ohio in 2014 in the second-tier Xfinity Series.Buescher posted two Xfinity victories last season and won the series title. Hes spending his rookie season in Cup as basically the fourth driver for Roush Fenway Racing becaause of a shared technical alliance between the organizations.dddddddddddd Osborne said that relationship would give his shop everything it needs in the coming weeks as the team seeks a Chase spot.I dont see anything to hold him back from getting into the top 30, said Ragan, who drives the No. 23 Toyota for BK Racing. Im certainly going to race hard. I dont want him to get there at my expense, but hes had speed of late. If he just had a little luck. With five races remaining before the Chase begins, 10 drivers have clinched spots in the 16-driver field: Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, Logano and Martin Truex Jr. With one win, Tony Stewart has all but claimed one of the remaining spots. That Buescher is ready to join them is not a surprise back at the shop. The surprise is that he isnt in yet, and thats mainly because of bad luck. He has finished 30th or worse 10 times this season, including the first three restrictor plate races. It was our goal at the beginning of the season, said Buescher, who spent a day and a half in Utah this week to hone his road course skills. Were in really good shape. The last seven, eight weeks, weve been unloading with a lot better speed, running better in the race. After this weekend, were going to a lot of places for the second time. Weve got a good notebook. We feel like we have good chemistry where we can pick up speed in the next five races.Still, it promises to be full of intrigue, starting with newly paved Watkins Glen International, where strategy and fuel mileage often come into play in a race that covers just 220.5 miles. Buescher was 23rd-fastest in final Cup practice Friday.Im really happy for Bob, really happy for Chris, said Carl Edwards, who worked with Osborne at Roush. Bob and I talked a while back, and Bob made a specific point. He said, Chris is so good, people dont realize how good this kid is. Hopefully, they can get things rolling and get in the points and maybe put something together for the end of the year. ' ' '
