itcher during his original stint with the Mets, Collins plans to Antworten

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Its a free country, so it makes no difference to Rex Ryan whether Colin Kaepernick continues to kneel in protest during the national anthem when Buffalo hosts the 49ers on Sunday. The Bills coach is more concerned what the San Francisco quarterback can do with his arm and legs once the game begins now that Kaepernick has reclaimed the starting job .Im not worried about that kind of figure, Ryan said, referring to Kaepernick transcending football and entering the national political discussion with his public stance against racial oppression and police brutality.Im worried about the quarterback, he added. Any time you lead a team to a Super Bowl, thats pretty good. So thats where our focus certainly is on preparing for him.Ryan has no intention of the Bills losing their focus even though he believes standing for the anthem pays respect to members of the armed forces.Buffalo (3-2) has won three straight , and the objective is making it four in a row, which would mark the Bills best streak since going 4-0 to open 2008.Make no mistake, were still kicking dirt off ourselves from the start we had, Ryan said. Were not that good. Were not good enough to overlook anybody, let alone the 49ers.San Francisco (1-4) has lost four straight and seeking any semblance of a spark, which is one of the reasons first-year coach Chip Kelly made the switch at quarterback by benching Blaine Gabbert .Its not Blaines fault, Kelly said. We just felt we needed to do something on the offensive side of the ball to get us going. When you look at the depth of the offensive side of the ball, its really the one maneuver we could make.Little has gone right for the 49ers since a 28-0 season-opening rout of an undisciplined Los Angeles Rams opponent. In their past four games, Gabbert has thrown four touchdowns and six interceptions, and the Niners have managed just 16 big plays (10 or more yards rushing, 20 or more yards passing) after having seven against L.A.Enter Kaepernick, who made a splash with his dual-threat abilities in leading San Francisco to a Super Bowl appearance in 2013 -- a 34-31 loss to Baltimore -- and to the NFC championship game the following year, which the 49ers lost to Seattle. His production has tailed off since, with injuries playing a factor. In the past 11 months, hes had operations on his left non-throwing shoulder, left knee and right thumb.Kaepernicks last start was Nov. 1, when his record dropped to 2-6 following a 27-6 loss at St. Louis. As a competitor, you always want to be in a position where you can help your team win football games, Kaepernick said. I now have that opportunity and want to take full advantage of it.Heres a number of things to look for Sunday:RAISED PLATFORM: Kaepernick doesnt feel added pressure to succeed to help expand his voice .If me winning some games and playing well amplifies how much people want to listen to what Im saying and what Im fighting for, great, he said. But regardless of what happens on the field, theres nothing that can delegitimize what this movement is about.CHIP VS. LESEAN PART II: Bills running back LeSean McCoy caused a stir last year by using a profanity in saying he wouldnt shake then-Eagles coach Chip Kellys hand before Buffalos game at Philadelphia. McCoy was upset in believing Kellys decision to trade him to Buffalo was possibly racially motivated.McCoy still isnt likely to shake Kellys hand Sunday, but was far more reserved in sharing his emotions toward his former coach.I never really had an issue with him, McCoy said. Some things we didnt see eye to eye, but thats tons of players and coaches.POROUS D: The 49ers have allowed a 100-yard rusher for four straight weeks, contributing to San Francisco having the leagues second-worst rushing defense at 146.8 yards per game. The Niners will have their hands full this week against McCoy, who has a combined 330 yards rushing and three TDs (including one receiving) in the past three games since Anthony Lynn replaced Greg Roman as offensive coordinator.STOUT D: Led by 10th-year journeyman Lorenzo Alexanders NFL-leading seven sacks, the Bills have 17 already -- four fewer than they had last year. Buffalo is also third in the NFL with 11 takeaways (five fumbles, six interceptions), including three returned for touchdowns.O-LINE SWITCH: The move to Kaepernick might not be the only change on offense. Rookie guard Joshua Garnett played 18 snaps as a reserve last week and could start against the Bills in place of Andrew Tiller. The Niners traded up to draft Garnett in the first round, but he didnt get a single snap on offense the first four weeks.---AP Sports Writer Josh Dubow in Santa Clara, California, contributed to this report.---AP NFL website: and AP NFL Twitter feed: Bob Cousy Celtics Jersey . At a Manhattan federal court hearing, attorney Jordan Siev said his law office has gotten more evidence nearly every day to support its lawsuit accusing MLB and Selig of going on a "witch hunt" to ruin Rodriguezs reputation and career. He said the defendants went "way over the line. Shaquille ONeal Jersey . After a lengthy wait, persistent rain finally forced the postponement of the Nationals game against the Miami Marlins on Saturday night. The teams, and a few thousand fans, waited nearly four hours from the 7:05 scheduled start time before an announcement was made shortly before 11 p. . Soukalova missed only one target and completed the 15-kilometre course in 40 minutes, 32.6 seconds for both victories in this seasons individual discipline. Darya Domracheva of Belarus was second, 34. Paul Pierce Jersey . McCarthy, a player who played some games in the second tier for Wigan at the start of this season, would go on to shine inside Evertons midfield, outplaying the man he was brought in to replace, on one of the grandest stages in English football. On Saturday, it was fitting that Manchester Uniteds most recent dagger into the chest was delivered by Frenchman Yohan Cabaye, a wonderfully gifted central midfielder who put on an outstanding effort for Newcastle at Old Trafford. Danny Ainge Jersey . The 28-year-old from Calgary matched his career best after missing just one shot in his two rounds of shooting in the mens 10-kilometre sprint competition. Smith finished in 23 minutes 15. Last year, it was Yoenis Cespedes. This year, the New York Mets have acquired Jay Bruce from the Cincinnati Reds to bolster their offense. The trade had been held up Monday due to a medical issue with one of the players involved in an earlier version of the deal, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson confirmed. The Mets also reacquired Jonathon Niese from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a swap for fellow left-hander Antonio Bastardo at Mondays non-waiver trade deadline.Bruce, 29, had spent his entire nine-year career with the Reds. He leads the National League in RBIs this season with 80 to go along with 25 homers and a .265 batting average. He becomes the first player traded during the season while leading the league in RBIs since the stat became official in 1920, according to Elias Sports Bureau.Bruce, who will join the Mets on Tuesday, is a lifetime .249 hitter with 233 home runs and 718 RBIs. He will be slotted behind Cespedes in the Mets lineup, although Cespedes is dealing with a right quadriceps issue and was out of the lineup for a second straight day on Monday.Hes been a run producer, Alderson said of Bruce. Hes been in the middle of a lineup. From my standpoint, are we relying on him to produce runs? Yes, I think probably we are. But I think his presence in the middle of the lineup will change things. It wasnt clear to me how much longer Cespedes was going to get pitches to hit as long as we had the rest of the lineup around him as it was.In the trade, the Reds get 22-year-old second baseman Dilson Herrera and 19-year-old left-hander Max Wotell. Herrera batted .211 in 103 plate appearances with the Mets in 2015 and was hitting .276 with 13 homers and 55 RBIs at Triple-A Las Vegas this season.Wotell, drafted by the Mets in the third round of the 2015 draft, was 3-1 with a 4.25 ERA in six starts for Kingsport of the short-season Appalachian League.Outfielder Brandon Nimmo had been in an earlier version of the trade. Cincinnati officials had concern about a partial tear of a tendon in Nimmos left foot that was suffered in late January, but it is not clear if that medical issue or another prospects medical info forced the reconfiguration of the deal.Herrera had been viewed as the second baseman of the future for the Mets. His presence had been one justification for not making a multiyear offer to Daniel Murphy last offseason when he defected to the Washington Nationals.Alderson said circumstances have changed, though, and the Mets are equipped to cover second base in 2017 even with Neil Walkers expected departure as a free agent and Herrera gone. The Mets now have Jose Reyes under control for next season at the major league minimum. Alderson also cited Las Vegas shortstop Gavin Cecchini as a potential second-base option next season. Its not that our estimation of Dilson has gone down, Alderson said. Its that we realize we have some other options and seem to be well covered there. This was an opportunity to deal from a position, I thiink, of relative strength in the system to acquire some offense that we felt we needed.ddddddddddddruces contract has a team option next season worth $13 million, with a $1 million buyout. That should provide the Mets comfort since it would reduce the blow if Cespedes opts out of his contract in November. Alderson suggested the acquisition of Bruce was not made with the potential loss of Cespedes this winter in mind.We were not looking for a rental player, and certainly not looking to give up the kind of talent we did for the next two months, Alderson said. The Mets were not on Bruces no-trade list, which included the Red Sox, Rays, Yankees, Blue Jays, Diamondbacks, Marlins, As and Twins. Why did the Mets need Bruce? For starters, they rank last in the majors in batting average with runners in scoring position at .206.The Mets boast one of the best pitching staffs in baseball, led by Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom, but they are only 13th in the National League in runs scored with 381. Last season, they were in a similar position and acquired Cespedes, who sparked them to the World Series. The addition of Bruce does leave the Mets with a collection of players who are not ideally suited for center field. Collins hopes Cespedes can return to center field once his quadriceps improves. Otherwise, Michael Conforto and Curtis Granderson will need to be used there against right-handed pitching. Its not an absolute perfect fit for us, Alderson said. You start with the need for offense and work from there. Bruce homered in five straight games in late July, a career best. One downside to him as a player has been his career-long penchant for following a hot streak with an incredibly cold one.The Reds tweeted thank you to Bruce.Cincinnati is into its second year of rebuilding, trading any high-priced veteran it can. The Reds dealt starters Johnny Cueto and Mike Leake, All-Star Home Run Derby winner Todd Frazier and closer Aroldis Chapman in the past year. They tried to trade second baseman Brandon Phillips to the Nationals, but he used his option to block the deal. They also put together the framework of a three-team deal that wouldve sent Bruce to Toronto in the offseason, but that fell through. Bastardo signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Mets in January but had struggled in relief this season. Niese is receiving $9 million this season and is likely to be bought out of team options for the following two seasons.Although Niese mostly served as a starting pitcher during his original stint with the Mets, Collins plans to use him out of the bullpen. He will provide a rotation safety net, though, in case Zack Wheeler has a setback in the final stages of his rehab from Tommy John surgery. Wheelers fastball sat at 90 to 93 mph during a simulated game on Monday. He is due to begin a rehab assignment on Saturday. ' ' '
