In 1978, Nike debuted with Air Tailwind, the first sneaker equipped with air cushioning technology. The revolutionary idea of ??adding air to a sneaker came from former NASA engineer Frank Rudy. A small idea of ??Rudy, a giant leap for Nike.
The Air Tailwind sneaker was first launched in extremely limited quantities for the 1978 Honolulu Marathon, before being released to the public a year later. Let's imagine it has been a Nike Air Max 270 Femme very long and painful year for first generation hypebeasts.
Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Nike Air Max 1 was the first sneaker to offer a window on the sole. The unconventional thinker was inspired by the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris to design the sneaker that made his Air technology visible.
Originally nicknamed Air Max 3, the Nike Air Max 90 has completely reworked the Air Max sneaker for the new decade. Even today, Air Max 90 is one of the most popular sneakers in the world.
The Nike Air Classic BW was originally a more elegant version of the Air Max 90 with a larger Air window (yes, the BW really means "Big Window"). More recently, the Nike Air Max BW has been updated with a full-length Air sole borrowed from Air Max 97. The first time on a SKAir model from Skepta; we believe that the changes greatly improve the Nike Air Max 270 Damen sneaker.
Time to play. The first Nike sneaker that showed Air technology Adidas Superstar Mujer on its sole, the Nike Air Max 180 (viewed at 180 degrees of visible air) was in many ways a departure from the proven formula of the first Air Max.
Created using a blowing technique, the Air Max 93 (the original Air Max 270) took the design of the Air Max 180 and gave us colored Air units (yes).
Entering more unknown territories in our journey through the history of Air Max, the 1994 Air Max (predictably labeled as Air Max 94) is often overlooked or unknown even by the most avid sneakers collectors. So what is it? It's essentially a hybrid of Nike Air Max Light and Nike Air Max 93. And if you're asking us, we think it makes it pretty damn good.
My absolute favorite Air Max model is one that has never had a new release, the 1994 Air Max 2. This was one of the last Air Max designed by Tinker Hatfield and introduced multiple Nike Air Force 1 Dámské Air chambers with different pressures for a strategic cushioning and support (later found in Air Max 95). The upper, the stained mudguard and the different color Air units in the heel come together to create an incredible design
A sneaker with a subtle brand and surprising shape; the Air Max 95 designed by Sergio Lozano was created with human anatomy in mind (a fun fact that seems cool and slightly coarse at the same time). It is important to note that Air Max 95 marks an important milestone in the Nike Air Max timeline as the complete revision in the design indicates the brand's trust in its relationship with the consumer. In short: in '95 they had it.
An original "robust sneaker"; the Nike Air Max 96 has a lot in common with today's most sought after silhouettes. Indeed, with its minimal brand, the layered upper and the Nike Air Force 1 Dame bulky sole being so in vogue, we are anticipating a new release in the near future.
Finally, full-length Air cushioning. The Air Max 97 - designed by Christian Tressler and inspired by the drops of water that create ripples in a pond - is the treasure of the sneakerhead community. And while the OG coloring is often nicknamed "Silver Bullet", the hue was actually inspired by the silver shine of mountain bikes.
