public comments last week for running back Duke Johnson. Multiple teammates reportedly had some strong private comments for Mayfield.According to Mike Silver of NFL Media https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Antonio-Callaway-Jersey , “several veteran Browns players” approached Mayfield “to register their displeasure.” Silver says that the players and Mayfield “hashed out their differences.”Johnson has been asking for a trade, and he skipped voluntary offseason workouts in order to express his displeasure with his status, given the presence of Nick Chubb and the offseason signing of Kareem Hunt. Said Mayfield at the team’s mandatory minicamp (which Johnson attended): “If we have guys that want to be here, they’ll show that, they’ll voice that. Obviously he’s going to handle his stuff how he wants, but you’re either on this train or you’re not, it’s moving. You can get out of the way or you can join us, so it is what it is.”The comments were more confusing than offensive, because Johnson to get off the train. And for good reason. He’s due to make $1.6 million this year, and the Browns need him given that Hunt will miss the first eight games of the season. Come next year, however, Johnson’s salary doubles to $3.6 million. And the Browns will be less likely to keep him.So Johnson is pushing the issue now, hopeful for a trade to a team where he can prove his worth for 2020, because next year his contract becomes far less attractive for trade purposes.Veteran players took some offense because Mayfield came dangerously close to getting in between a teammate and his financial arrangements Britton Colquitt Jersey , under the guise of the kind of rah-rah stuff that simply doesn’t apply to the NFL like it does to college and high school football. The best news for the Browns is that things were quickly hashed out between Mayfield and his veteran teammates. Mayfield is still young and learning, but he has the ability to connect with his teammates in a unique way, and he surely used that charisma to work through the concerns that were brought to him. The mere fact that teammates felt comfortable raising the concerns shows that there’s already a special relationship between Mayfield and his teammates. The Browns' highly anticipated opener turned into one giant, yellow flag.Talk about a false start. The Browns were called for 18 penalties — their most since 1951 — and quarterback Baker Mayfield injured his right hand while being sacked for a safety and throwing three interceptions in a 43-13 thrashing on Sunday by the Tennessee Titans, who ruined a party Cleveland had been planning for months. It was all supposed to be different for these Browns, revitalized by the addition of star receiver Odell Beckham Jr.Instead, it was more of the same."That is not the way we want to be represented," said first-year coach Freddie Kitchens, who put on a brave face following his team's demoralizing 2019 debut. "We lost our discipline and we lost our composure. ... I did not see it coming."No one did. Except maybe the Titans."I'm gonna be honest with you, man, they were who we thought they were," said Tennessee tight end Delanie Walker, who had two touchdown catches. "If you want to crown them, crown 'em."The Browns were favored to win their first season opener in 15 years Tyrod Taylor Jersey , and after taking the opening kickoff, Mayfield drove the offense 73 yards for a TD in the opening five minutes. Things looked promising, and Cleveland's crowd was roaring at unsafe decibels. But rookie Austin Seibert missed the extra point, and the penalties began piling up like laundry in front of a washing machine.Cleveland was called for 10 infractions in the first half, with starting left tackle Greg Robinson's ejection for kicking Titans safety Kenny Vaccaro in the head the most egregious act."We do not tolerate that," Kitchens said. "That is unacceptable."Vaccaro isn't sure what prompted Robinson's reaction."I knocked him over and he kicked me in my head," Vaccaro said. "I thought it was funny. It's going to be a hefty fine, I feel bad for him. I didn't want him to get ejected. We were taught on this team, no dumb penalties."The Browns are still learning.Kitchens couldn't explain why his team was so undisciplined by he vowed to make the necessary corrections before the Browns visit the New York Jets one week from Monday.""We are not changing anything," he said. "I believe in what we are doing. Our players believe in what we are doing. We had a lot of situations we put ourselves in today that made it very difficult to get to the point where we could overcome some of the things that we were doing wrong."We are going to keep staying to course, keep our head down and keep working."The Browns fell to 1-19-1 in season openers, with the lone win coming in 2004.Mayfield, who was sacked five times, left FirstEnergy Stadium with his right hand wrapped. The team said X-rays taken after the game were negative and he should be ready for next week.Playing behind a patchwork line following Robinson's disqualification and an injury to backup left tackle Kendall Lamm Baker Mayfield Color Rush Jersey , Mayfield completed 25 of 38 passes for 285 yards and one touchdown. But he couldn't get Cleveland's offense into any kind of rhythm because of the penalties.Mayfield tried to find positives from an otherwise awful afternoon. He's confident his teammates will regroup and rally."Because everybody is going to throw us in the trash," he said. "I think that is good. I know what type of men we have in this locker room. Quite frankly, I do not give a damn what happens on the outside. I know how we are going to react. I know what we are going to do."We are going to bounce back. We have a Monday night game coming up, so we do not really care. We are ready to go."Beckham, who had seven catches for 71 yards in his debut, said as long as the Browns clean up their mistakes, they'll be fine."We need to be more disciplined," he said. "It is the first game so whether we lost by one point or 40 points, it still says an 'L' on the records. It is nothing to panic about. Adversity has to come at some point in the season, so why not right now?"
https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Montravius-Adams-Jersey , they do so with a little more excitement than usual. With three picks in the top 45 selections and several positions of need, Green Bay has an opportunity to land instant contributors and long-term cornerstones next April. While the Packers figure to improve their depth at edge rusher with at least one of those picks, their need to improve the safety position truly revealed itself as the 2018 season wore on. And because of that, the name Johnathan Abram should be on Packers fans’ radars heading into pre-draft festivities. The 6’0, 215-pound Abram entered his senior season at Mississippi State as a potential mid-round draft pick. After a stellar year, he finds himself hovering in the area of rounds one and two depending on his athletic testing at the NFL Combine. The former junior college safety began his college career with the Georgia Bulldogs before finishing his final two years of eligibility with Mississippi’s version of the bulldogs. He brings that bulldog trait to the playing field.Described as a “throwback” safety, Abram’s game is passionate and relentless, attributes the Packers’ defense could benefit from. He brings a thump to any and all ballcarriers and learned to harness that physicality enough to better avoid personal foul penalties as a senior. Although his aggressiveness has led to blown coverages on occasion, notably a long touchdown pass against Iowa in the Outback Bowl, Abram improved greatly with experience. A major issue of the Packers’ deep half of the secondary was tackling this past season and Abram would shore up that area of weakness immediately as one of the draft’s best tacklers from the safety position. On top of his intensity, Abram has been a playmaker, totaling 14 tackles for a loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles, and two interceptions over his two seasons in Starkville. He was in position for several more interceptions in 2018 Jake Ryan Jersey , coming up just shy on a few occasions. But when the Bulldogs needed a third down stop or a sure tackle on a screen pass, Abram usually came through and showed the ability to shed through blockers on the outside. For a team like Green Bay, which tied for 29th in the NFL in takeaways in 2018, Abram’s ability to find the ball would be a welcome addition.Abram’s versatility may be of most significant interest to Green Bay. In recent seasons, the Packers have employed safeties at inside linebacker on passing downs to gain an advantage in coverage. His physicality would be a great fit in the box for the Packers, especially against tight ends. Green Bay could also line Abram up in the slot, where he has been a dangerous blitzer as a senior and held his own against top receivers. Against Alabama, Misssissippi State used Abram in the slot against Jerry Jeudy and he held the Crimson Tide’s standout to just six catches for 45 yards, his second-lowest output of the season. Abram’s ability to line up in man coverage in the slot and outside when needed, in addition to safety and potentially linebacker, would give the Packers the tremendous versatility they covet.Abram’s play in 2018 has made him a surefire pick in the draft’s first two days and many are beginning to take notice. While Abram still has coverage skills he needs to work on, a good showing at the Combine could vault him into late first-round consideration and the territory of Green Bay’s second pick of the round. A very vocal team player with leadership skills and experience in the SEC, Abram would bring a swagger to the game that the Packers need now more than ever. While he may not be the free roamer that the Packers must also address at safety, he is the kind of in-the-box safety that they hoped Josh Jones and Kentrell Brice would become.Green Bay could look many directions with its first-round selections, but Abram could fill several schematic positions as soon as next year and provide much-needed stability at safety for years to come. Patrick Mahomes has dazzled NFL audiences with no-look passes Lance Kendricks Color Rush Jersey , left-handed throws and stellar performances in just his first full season as a starter. The dynamic Mahomes has the Kansas City Chiefs (11-3) leading the AFC and he's already earning top honors.Mahomes barely squeaked past Drew Brees as the NFL's top quarterback in 2018 in voting released Friday by a panel of 10 football writers for The Associated Press. Mahomes received six first-place votes, three seconds and one third. Brees got the other four first-place votes. "When Mahomes got off to a ridiculously good start, many wondered if he could keep up that pace. The answer has been a resounding yes, and the Chiefs gunslinger has shown no sign of slowing," said New York-based Dennis Waszak Jr.Mahomes has 45 touchdown passes and a chance to become just the third player to reach 50. Peyton Manning set the single-season record with 55 TDs in 2013. Tom Brady had 50 in 2007."The poster boy for wild creativity in the wide-open offensive environment that pervades the NFL, Mahomes has that star quality teams crave," said New York-based Barry Wilner, who put Mahomes third behind Brees and Philip Rivers. "He also has the talent they desperately need to succeed."Brees, at age 39, is having a sensational season. He already broke Manning's record for career yards passing and surpassed Brett Favre's mark for most completions. He's on pace to break his own record for highest completion percentage in a season, and he has the New Orleans Saints (12-2) on the verge of securing the NFC's No. 1 seed."He's taken his game to another level this year, posting some of the best marks of a brilliant career," San Francisco-based Josh Dubow said.Rivers finished third in voting. The 38-year-old is having perhaps his finest season and has the Los Angeles Chargers (11-3) back in the playoffs with a chance to surpass the Chiefs for the top spot."One of his generation's most underappreciated players has finally begun to get the praise deserved for the Bolts' 11-wins-and-counting surge," said Minnesota-based Dave Campbell.Andrew Luck came in fourth after missing the entire 2017 season and returning to help the Indianapolis Colts get back into the playoff chase."He's back and so are the Colts. Wonder if Josh McDaniels has any regrets about reneging on that gig now," said Denver-based Arnie Stapleton.Brady finished fifth in the poll after placing first in September."Not the best season by his near-impossible standards https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Davon-House-Jersey , but the G.O.A.T. still has the Patriots a win away from yet another AFC East title," said New York-based Simmi Buttar.Russell Wilson was sixth followed Aaron Rodgers, Jared Goff, Deshaun Watson and Ben Roethlisberger. Wilson has helped the Seattle Seahawks (8-6) move toward a playoff berth in what was supposed to be a rebuilding season."Wilson has gone from a quarterback who rode a great defense to a Super Bowl title early in his career to one leading his team to a likely playoff berth this year," Dubow said. "Few have the ability to extend plays like Wilson, who regularly turns what look like busted plays into big ones."Rodgers only has thrown two interceptions, but he dropped in the rankings because the Green Bay Packers are 5-8-1 and cost coach Mike McCarthy his job. Rodgers hasn't had a losing record since his first season as starter in 2008."Having only two interceptions this season would be more impressive if the Packers were having more success," Tennessee-based Teresa Walker said. "Instead, there's not been much difference since firing Mike McCarthy."Only 13 quarterbacks received votes. Matt Ryan was named on six ballots, Baker Mayfield was on three and Carson Wentz, who finished third in NFL MVP voting last season, made one list.
played it safe and his kicker made him look smart. The Chicago Bears lost 17-16 to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday because Eddy Pineiro missed a 41-yard field goal after Nagy had quarterback Mitchell Trubisky take a knee on first-and-10 from the 21 with 43 seconds remaining. The Indianapolis Colts beat the Denver Broncos 15-13 on Adam Vinatieri's 51-yard field goal after Reich called two runs to set up a long field goal. Both coaching philosophies were conservative Nyheim Hines Color Rush Jersey , but the results were different because of execution.Trubisky had just scrambled 11 yards and the Bears had one timeout left. There was plenty of time to run a couple more plays to move the ball closer for Pineiro, who already had a miss when he hit the right upright on a 33-yard try earlier in the game.David Montgomery had run for 135 yards and seemed like the best option to get more yards to make it a shorter kick. But Nagy was worried about a turnover."I have zero thought of running the ball and taking the chance of fumbling the football," Nagy said. "They know you're running the football, so you lose 3, 4 yards, so that wasn't even in our process as coaches to think about that."We were in field goal range before the scramble, and then we got the scramble, so that didn't even cross my mind."Nagy was blistered on social media for his decision. He should know he can't take any kick for granted given the way Chicago's season ended last year. The Bears lost 16-15 to the Eagles in the playoffs when Cody Parkey's 43-yard field goal in the closing seconds was tipped at the line of scrimmage and doinked off an upright and the crossbar.Yet Nagy was defiant when questioned about his play calling."Throw the football right then and there? What happens if you take a sack or there's a fumble?" he said. "I'll just be brutally clear. Zero thought of throwing the football. Zero thought of running the football. You understand me? That's exactly what it was. It's as simple as that."Nagy displayed no confidence in his offensive line, quarterback and running back at a critical time in the game and put all his faith in a rookie kicker. It backfired. At least Reich trusted a guy who is the most clutch player to ever play his position in NFL history. The Colts trailed Denver 13-12 and faced a second-and-11 from the Broncos 35 with 1:13 remaining after quarterback Jacoby Brissett was stopped for a 1-yard loss on first down. Reich wasn't content to kick from there, but didn't want to risk a big loss. So he called two running plays even though throwing the ball may have seemed like a better option to gain more yards.Marlon Mack only gained 2 yards on two carries, but Vinatieri drilled the game-winner after missing a 45-yard try earlier and the tying extra point. He also kicked a 55-yarder at the end of the first half."We didn't have any timeouts left so I didn't want to take a chance of a penalty or a sack and get out of field goal range," Reich said, explaining why he chose to run instead of pass. "I knew we were inside of 55 yards. I knew that was money for Adam. I had all the confidence in the world that he was going to make that. Even after we missed the extra point, he came running off and I said: 'Hey. Don't worry about it. You're going to win it for us.'"It was not tough for me to have that confidence. I didn't want to be too aggressive there. ... We had a shot to win it, and that's all we wanted there at the end."It worked.AP Sports Writers Jay Cohen in Chicago and Michael Marot in Indianapolis contributed to this report. The Indianapolis Colts continued to rely heavily on young players to put away the Tennessee Titans in Nashville on Sunday night. It was a great opportunity for the young Colts to get recognized on a big stage and many of the first- and second-year players made the most of their chances. We will take a look at contributions on both sides of the ball, along with season totals for each player. OFFENSEQuenton Nelson and Braden Smith remain stalwarts on the Colts offensive line. Both took every offensive snap. Neither allowed a sack. They helped the Colts rush for 158 yards and put up 33 points on the 3rd ranked scoring defense in the NFL. Nelson even gathered a tackle. Nelson finished the season having played every snap and allowed only 4 quarterback hits and 2 sacks as a rookie. He became the first guard in NFL history be named Offensive Player of the Month and is the first Colts rookie lineman named to the Pro Bowl since Colts Ring of Honor member Chris Hinton did so in 1983. Hinton went on to receive 7 Pro Bowl invitations and was named an All-Pro 7 times. Running back Jordan Wilkins finally had an opportunity to make an on-field impact, tallying 3 carries for 18 yards and adding 1 catch for 5 yards. Another catch and would-be touchdown was negated by a penalty flag. Wilkins spelled Mack and played on a total of 16% of the offensive plays.Wilkins finished his rookie season with 60 carries for 336 yards, a team-leading 5.6 yards per carry average, and added one rushing touchdown. He also caught 16 passes for 85 yards and had an impressive 94.1% catch percentage. Unfortunately, he led the team with 2 fumbles and both resulted in turnovers.Rookie back Nyheim Hines took his only carry for 4 yards but added 3 receptions for 25 yards. His role was heavier earlier than the game than it was late as he saw the field for only 18% of the offensive opportunities. On the season, Hines carried the ball 85 times for 314 yards, a team-worst 3.7 yards per carry average, and added two rushing touchdowns. He shined most as a receiver, catching 63 passes for 425 yards and another two touchdowns, with a 77.8% catch percentage. His 63 receptions was third best on the team behind only T.Y. Hilton and Eric Ebron, and he gathered the third highest reception total for a rookie in Colts history, behind only Marvin Harrison and Bill Brooks.Second-year rusher Marlon Mack toted the ball 25 times for 119 yards and a touchdown. He also caught 3 passes for a total of -1 yards and saw the field for 67% of the offensive snaps. For the season, Mack gathered 908 yards on 195 carries, a 4.7 yards per carry average, and carried the ball for 10 touchdowns. He had four games with over 100 rushing yards, including back-to-back performances with more than 120 yards. The last Colts running back to have four games of 100 yards or more was Joseph Addai in 2007. Mack added 17 receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown, and had a 65.4% catch percentage.Sophomore tight end Mo Alie-Cox had 1 catch for 21 yards against the Titans and saw the field for 49% of the offensive opportunities. He finished the season with 7 receptions for 133 yards and two touchdowns https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Johnny-Unitas-Jersey , with a catch percentage of 53.8%. Perhaps his biggest impact has been filling in as one of the team’s primary blocking tight ends, particularly after Jack Doyle was lost for the season to injury.Second-year receiver Zach Pascal saw the field for 54% of the offensive snaps but was not targeted. His season concluded with 27 receptions for 268 yards and 2 touchdowns, with a catch percentage of 58.7%. He returned 14 kickoffs for 297 yards, a 21.2 yards per return average.DEFENSEDarius Leonard tied for the team lead with 8 tackles, 1 interception and 2 passes defensed. His interception sealed the game and allowed Andrew Luck to kneel down to close things out. He played on 100% of the defensive snaps.Leonard had one of the most productive defensive seasons in NFL history. He finished with 163 tackles (1st in the NFL), 7 sacks (2nd on the team), 12 tackles for a loss, 8 quarterback hits, 2 interceptions, 8 passes defensed, 4 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries. He broke the Colts record for tackles in a season and is a front runner for Defensive Rookie of the Year.Undrafted free agent safety George Odum collected 5 tackles and one pass defensed on 53% of defensive downs played. For the season, Odum tallied 28 defensive tackles, 8 special teams tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 interception and 2 passes defensed. With injuries suffered by Clayton Geathers, Matthias Farley and Mike Mitchell at different times during the season, Odum stepped in to take on a significant role in the nickel defense.Seventh round rookie linebacker Zaire Franklin generated 3 tackles on 12% of the defensive snaps. He finished with 25 defensive tackles, 4 special teams tackles and a pass defensed. He was used primarily in a rotational role when the Colts starting linebackers were sidelined. His biggest contribution came against the New England Patriots in Week 5, where he tallied 11 of his 25 defensive tackles.Fellow seventh round rookie linebacker Matthews Adams had 2 tackles on 29% of the defensive snaps against the Titans. He finished the season with 26 defensive tackles, 7 special teams tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 2 quarterback hits and a fumble recovery. It took him over half of the season to really start making a consistent impact as he worked his way into the “starting” strong side linebacker role. His largest impact has been felt against mobile quarterbacks where he helps to set the edge and contain the pocket. Second round defensive end Tyquan Lewis played on 43% of the defensive snaps against the Titans but did not register a defensive stat. For the season, which started on Week 10 for him after he was placed on injured reserve to start the year, Lewis gathered 13 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 tackles for a loss, 8 quarterback hits and a pass defensed. He notably took away almost all of Kemoko Turay’s defensive snaps when he returned from injury and clearly earned the trust of Indy’s defensive coaches as a three-down defender.Speaking of Turay, he saw the field on 24% of the defensive snaps against the Titans but wasunable to record a defensive stat. His rookie season started with promising signs but fizzled out in the back half of the season. He totaled 15 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 tackle for a loss, tied for the team lead with 13 quarterback hits and forced a fumble. It will be interesting to follow Turay’s development over the off-season after such a strange progression in his rookie season.Kenny Moore II has been one of the biggest surprises for the Colts secondary in 2018. He started by flashing his potential in training camp as the best defensive back on the team and consistently displayed his skill set throughout the season. Against the Titans, he was on the field for every defensive snap and registered 4 tackles Jacoby Brissett Jersey , a back-breaking interception and 2 passes defensed. For the season, Moore tallied 76 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, 2 quarterback hits, 3 interceptions, 11 passes defensed and a forced fumble. Former first round safety Malik Hooker saw the field in his sophomore season as much as any second-year player. He had to transition into a new defensive role and was still within the one-year mark from his ACL/MCL surgeries from the mid-year mark in 2017, but he started to make his presence felt late in the season. In Nashville, he took every defensive snap and gathered 3 tackles and pass defensed. For the season, Hooker generated 44 tackles, 2 interceptions, 4 passes defensed and a fumble recovery. Early in the season, Chris Ballard added defensive lineman Al-Quadin Muhammad off of waivers from the New Orleans Saints. He has received a heavy work load as a rotational lineman throughout the year. In Tennessee, Muhammad registered 3 tackles on 43% of the defensive snaps. For the season, he recorded 28 tackles 5 tackles for a loss, 2 quarterback hits, 1 pass defensed and a fumble recovery.Second-year linebacker Anthony Walker was unable to work his way into a meaningful role in his rookie season. That changed when Matt Eberflus brought a speed-based, Tampa 2 defense to Indianapolis that allowed Walker to drop weight and simplify his assignments. After missing the Week 16 game against the New York Giants, Walker tallied 2 tackles on 76% of the defensive snaps against Tennessee. He concluded the season with 104 tackles (2nd on the team), 1 sack, 10 tackles for a loss, 2 quarterback hits, 1 interception, 4 passes defensed and a fumble recovery. Small school prospect Grover Stewart was drafted in 2017 due to freakish quickness for a man his size. He has served in a rotational role in his first two NFL seasons but has developed a habit of getting drawn off-sides that will need to be corrected. Against the Titans, Stewart registered 1 tackle and a tackle for a loss on 12% of the defensive snaps. He finished the season with 17 tackles and 2 tackles for a loss. Former second round pick Quincy Wilson has had a roller coaster experience since he arrived in Indianapolis. He spent much of his rookie season in Chuck Pagano’s dog house and then found himself back in that spot for Frank Reich and Matt Eberflus. He credits veteran safety Mike Mitchell for helping to turn his season around. Once Mitchell arrived, Wilson started to earn more opportunities. He collected 1 tackle on 59% of the defensive snaps in Tennessee. His season included 27 tackles, 1 interception, 2 passes defensed and a fumble recovery. ANALYSISIt has been an impressive season for first- and second-year Colts players. If Chris Ballard was truly intent on building a team identity and foundation based upon homegrown players, 2018 has been a very productive season in that effort. Numerous players seem to have their arrows pointing up and appear to have benefited considerably from coaching staff and defensive scheme changes.Ballard should have considerable flexibility in how he wants to approach the 2019 off-season due to all of the young and developing talent that is already filling the locker room.
SANTA CLARA David Moore Color Rush Jersey , Calif. (AP)Richard Sherman has been cleared to practice for the San Francisco 49ers at the start of training camp.Sherman joined San Francisco after getting released by rival Seattle following season-ending surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon. He was unable to participate in the offseason program but pronounced himself 100 percent when he reported to camp Wednesday and will take part in the team’s first practice Thursday.Sherman earned a $2 million bonus for passing his physical under a contract he negotiated himself following the injury that ended his season last November. Sherman consulted with former Lakers great Kobe Bryant on what it takes to come back from that kind of injury and always believed he would be ready for the start of camp.”It was a grind,” he said. ”But I think it was more like one of those things that you can look at optimistically or pessimistically. You can look at it as, `Woe is me, why did this happen to me? Why do I have to go through this?’ Or you could look at it as, `I needed another great challenge and I needed another mountain to climb.’ That’s how I treated it.”Coach Kyle Shanahan said the initial plan for Sherman will be to practice the first two days, take a day off Saturday and then return to the field Sunday. The 49ers will take Monday off and the team will see how Sherman has responded to figure out what’s next.”We trust what he thinks and how he works,” Shanahan said. ”A lot of it is up to Richard. If he’s being too aggressive, it’s our job to pull him back. It’s a matter of time when he gets back and we want to be smart with that.”Six players will open camp on injured lists, although most are expected back relatively soon. Guard Jonathan Cooper (knee), receiver Trent Taylor (back) and linebacker Dekoda Watson (calf) are on the physically unable to perform list.Linebacker Malcolm Smith had a lower leg injury while working out on his own recently and will begin camp on the non-football injury list, along with rookies Marcell Harris and Kentavius Street, who were hurt when they were drafted. But having a healthy Sherman to start camp is a big boost for a team full of optimism after winning the final five games last season under quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to finish 6-10.The midseason acquisition of Garoppolo from New England turned around a struggling franchise that had lost 24 of 27 games before he took over as starter late last season.”I don’t think anybody is thinking about last year,” Sherman said. ”It was a 6-10 team that didn’t make the playoffs. The few positives that come from last year https://www.theseahawksfanshop.com , you can appreciate them, but it’s still a 6-10 team that was picking in the top 10 in the draft. There’s not a lot to celebrate. That’s the way to approach it. Guys are hungry, they’re excited to go out there and prove this is a great team that can win ballgames.”Sherman talking up the 49ers is an odd change following his years tormenting the franchise when he played for Seattle. He made the deflection that led to an NFC title-clinching interception in January 2014 before trash-talking Michael Crabtree and then memorably celebrated a Thanksgiving night win over the 49ers the following season by eating a turkey leg at midfield at Levi’s Stadium. Now he’s mentoring young cornerbacks such as Ahkello Witherspoon, trading tips with Garoppolo, and quickly turning into a locker room leader.”He’s been pretty much the exact opposite of what I thought,” veteran left tackle Joe Staley said. ”I thought he was going to be annoying like he was annoying to me when he was in a Seahawks uniform but he’s been nothing but great.”The 49ers are also hoping Sherman can get back close to his level of play during his prime in Seattle when he was perhaps the game’s top shutdown cornerback. He was a first-team All-Pro for three straight seasons starting in 2012, leading the league with eight interceptions in 2013.Sherman still was one of the better cornerbacks the past three seasons, ranking second in the NFL by allowing just 49.2 percent of passes against him to be caught, according to Pro Football Focus. He said he feels re-energized after the injury.”I’m not saying you get complacent, but you get bored,” he said. ”It’s a routine. You go out there and play 16 games, play at a high level and do your best and you enjoy it, but sometimes when you throw a wrench in the plans kind of helps you. It wakes you up. It reignites the fire. It takes you back to where you need to be.”NOTES: Second-round WR Dante Pettis signed his rookie deal late Wednesday afternoon. … The 49ers signed OL JP Flynn to a two-year deal and DLs Will Sutton and Cedric Thornton to one-year contracts. DB Don Jones Seahawks Customized Color Rush Jerseys , OL Jamar McGloster and DL Blaine Woodson were waived to make room on the roster.— Any depression that set in from a sloppy and staggering loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday was somewhat alleviated by the news of Marshawn Lynch’s return to the Seattle Seahawks yesterday.A 14-point loss to the Cardinals combined with the loss of running backs Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise for the season to injuries and the temporary loss of left tackle Duane Brown to knee surgery suddenly put a massive damper on a team optimistic about doing damage in the playoffs. Lynch’s return has at least provided a shot of enthusiasm into the mix as Seattle prepares for a battle with the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night for the NFC West crown.“Only one person can pull this off and that’s No. 24,” linebacker K.J. Wright said. “Back in the building, feels good. When I heard the news, I was like ‘perfect.’ He’s just the ultimate teammate, cool dude, just ballin’. So I’m glad to have him back.”Wright is one of just a handful of Seahawks that actually played with Lynch during his first stint in Seattle. Quarterback Russell Wilson, linebacker Bobby Wagner, tight end Luke Willson, wide receiver Tyler Lockett and fellow Monday addition Robert Turbin are the only active players to have experienced Lynch’s presence in the locker room.Wright said Lynch’s presence is already leaving a mark on the rest of the roster.“It’s crazy because it’s like these guys, they never played with him,” Wright said. “It’s like everybody is just kind of a little starstruck. ‘Are we really getting Marshawn? How is he?’ I’m like, ‘he’s cool. You’ll like him.’ It feels good to have him in here and I can’t to see him come play on Sunday.”The question that remains to be answered is just what is Lynch still able to bring to the table having not played football in 14 months? Those that know Lynch the best certainly aren’t going to doubt his ability to perform.“I feel like anything this dude puts his mind to, he can get it done Seattle Seahawks T-Shirts ,” Wagner said. “I’m excited to have him back, excited to see him run the ball. Like I said, whenever he puts his jersey and pads on, he’s a guy that no one wants to tackle. No matter how long he’s taken off.“Definitely gives the team a little bit of energy. To see a guy like that, a guy that people look up to, a guy that has so much history here, so much history throughout the league, – not just on the field, but off the field – and to have a guy like that come into the room, and watch him run the ball again will be fun.”
ORCHARD PARK Tre’Davious White Jersey 2019 , N.Y. (AP) — Ever since he topped the 10,000 career yards rushing mark last season, LeSean McCoy set a “12K or bust” objective.Bust was more like it for the Buffalo Bills running back on Monday night, when McCoy totaled 13 yards on 12 carries in continuing what’s been a season-long struggle for the 10th year player.“I’ve had bad games, but this? The flow of the season and everything is bad,” McCoy said following a 25-6 loss to the New England Patriots. “I’m 30 years old. I’ve been playing since high school. This stuff has never happened to me. Yeah, it’s tough.”McCoy, who has missed one game with a groin injury, has just 257 yards rushing through eight games. That’s 20 yards more than he had in his first two games with Philadelphia in 2013, when McCoy finished with an NFL-leading 1 White Zay Jones Jerseys ,607 yards rushing. What hurts even more is being part of an anemic offense that is doing very little in supporting a defense that limited Tom Brady and the Patriots to scoring four field goals through three quarters.“It’s tough. And you see the defense out there just grinding, it’s so frustrating,” said McCoy, who did lead the Bills with 82 yards receiving. “We don’t do nothing on offense, and it’s not fair on them.”Buffalo lost its third straight and dropped to 2-6 in which it has scored just 87 points. As for New England, Brady was held without a touchdown pass for the first time this season. And yet the Patriots secured their fifth straight win and improved their AFC East-leading record to 6-2 courtesy of James White scoring on a 1-yard run and defensive back Devin McCourty returning an interception 84 yards for a touchdown four minutes apart in the fourth quarter. The interception was the turning point.Trailing 18-6, the Bills responded with what was initially ruled a touchdown, when tight end Jason Croom appeared to make a diving, one-handed catch in the end zone. The 25-yard catch was negated when replays showed Croom never had possession. Two plays later, McCourty jumped in front of Derek Anderson’s attempt to hit tight end Charles Clay over the middle.“Those are bonus points. It’s hard to count on those Zay Jones Jerseys 2019 ,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. “It was a big play for us. They were driving in the red area and it turned it around.”SUNDAY NIGHT SHOWDOWNWith a win on Monday night out of the way, the Patriots can look ahead to hosting Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers for a Sunday night showdown. It’ll mark just the second time Brady and Rodgers will face each other as starters. And Green Bay won the last meeting, 26-21, in 2014.“Aaron’s one of the best to ever play, so it’ll be exciting,” said Brady, who finished 29 of 45 for 324 yards passing against the Bills.PATTERSON ON THE RUNWith rookie running back Sony Michel out with a left knee injury, the Patriots leaned on Cordarrelle Patterson to help their ground game. Patterson finished with a team-best 38 yards rushing.White had 15 yards rushing, and added 10 catches for 79 yards. He now has 55 catches in becoming the NFL’s ninth running back to top 50 in his first eight games.SPUTTERING BILLSThe Bills have scored just seven touchdowns this season, and two in their past five. Buffalo also hasn’t scored a touchdown in the first half since rookie quarterback Josh Allen scored on 14-yard run in a 13-12 win against Tennessee on Oct. 7.Kicker Stephen Hauschka accounted for all of Buffalo’s points by hitting 51- and 47-yard field goals.ANDERSON HURTThe Bills might be down yet another quarterback after Anderson was escorted off the field after being sacked with 1:25 left. Coach Sean McDermott couldn’t provide any details on Anderson’s injury because the player was still being evaluated. The 35-year-old went 22 of 39 for 290 yards passing with an interception and a lost fumble in making his second start in place of rookie Josh Allen White Dion Dawkins Jerseys , who is listed week to week with a sprained right elbow. Buffalo’s only other quarterback is Nathan Peterman, who lost the starting job after faltering in the first half of a 47-3 season-opening loss at Baltimore.BY THE NUMBERSBrady improved to 29-3 against the Bills, extending his NFL record of most wins by a quarterback against one opponent. … The Patriots have won at least six of their first eight for the sixth straight year. … The Bills are off to their worst start since losing their first eight games in 2010. … The Bills have lost seven straight games on Monday night since a 23-18 win at Miami in 1999. To start with, I’d like to make a confession. I fully intended to bring you a look at the Buffalo Bills’ third-down defense against the New England Patriots as a “what should we be looking to fix” angle. It seemed perfect yet also, well...a real crap topic. This week most of us will be celebrating with our families and enjoying a holiday. While we pride ourselves on the content we bring you, this is a fan blog first and foremost. The more I thought about what to do the more I realized we have a lot to celebrate this year. And this blog is our extended family. So let’s celebrate! Short and sweet this week and then we can all go back to cookies, or egg nog, or whatever. Play 1 - Jordan Poyer forced fumbleWhile they had a down day, there are lots of reasons to celebrate the Bills’ defense. Tremaine Edmunds continues to develop, reacting better and better to what he’s seeing all the time. The combination of Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde continues to be incredible. Arguably the best corner in the league in Tre’Davious White. I could go on but the bottom line is that this unit is still the strength of the team. Right now at least. Play 2 - Dion Dawkins touchdownWhat makes this play especially fun is that Belichick used to be known for this trick. Seriously Dion Dawkins Jerseys 2019 , check out this article from 2015. The discussion there is still a valid one. There needs to be seven players on the line of scrimmage and the two players on the end must be eligible, and the five between cannot be eligible. TL;DR: Dion Dawkins by rule is the ONLY receiving option on the left side of the field. Yes it’s common for an extra lineman to report in as eligible, and yes the Bills could have wanted a very heavy formation to the right side. However it’s odd that a starting lineman is reporting in as eligible. Also, no one even looks at him until it’s way too late. Play 3 - John Brown touchdownThat’s a sweet double move by John Brown that leaves Stephon Gilmore in a cloud of smoke. I made sure to leave the catch itself alone so it’s easy to see that Brown never breaks stride. This was a very encouraging play. SummaryThe Bills aren’t perfect by any means, but they are nearly everything a fan could want. A few heartbreaking losses along the way aren’t great. A team that’s growing together and learning to win is great news though. Most importantly, these Bills are fun to watch. On and off the field fans have a lot to like about this team. Enjoy the ride Bills fans!
change on Sunday afternoon and that meant it was Jameis Winston‘s turn to run the offense.Winston did a lot better than starter Ryan Fitzpatrick Calvin Munson Jersey , who was pulled after throwing three interceptions before the end of the third quarter. Winston threw two touchdowns and led four touchdown drives to bring the Buccaneers within 38-35 before a desperate throw at the end of the game was intercepted. After the game, Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter said Winston was “fantastic” but didn’t say who would start against the 49ers in Week 12.The Buccaneers have now thrown 23 interceptions on the season, but there’s more to blame for their 3-7 record than the quarterbacks. They’ve failed to force a turnover for seven straight games, leaving them with a -23 turnover margin that’s on pace to be the worst in the history of the NFL.That doesn’t make it any easier to stomach the rate that Fitzpatrick and Winston have turned the ball over, of course, but a takeaway of their own now and again would still be nice. DAYTONA BEACH Womens Adam Butler Jersey , Fla. (AP) — The Daytona 500 is a sellout for the fourth consecutive year.Daytona International Speedway announced Saturday that all reserved grandstand seats have been purchased for the 61st running of “The Great American Race.”Track president Chip Wile says “this is a tribute to our fans.”Some specialty tickets remain, including access to premium hospitality areas, the infield and the pre-race concert featuring country singer Jake Owen.Other pre-race celebrities: Houston Texans star J.J. Watt will serve as grand marshal http://www.patriotslockerroom.com/authentic-mike-gillislee-jersey , giving the command for drivers to start their engines. New England Patriots receiver and Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman will serve as honorary starter, waving the green flag. Retired NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr. will serve as honorary pace truck driver, leading the field to the green flag. And the 82nd Airborne Division’s All-American Chorus will sing the national anthem. WEST PALM BEACH James Develin Jersey , Fla. (AP) — Prosecutors haven’t yet seen videos police say show New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and other men engaging in sex acts and handing over cash in a Florida spa.Lawyers for some of the men have filed court motions to keep the videos from being made public, arguing their clients were recorded without their consent. In a SunSentinel report , Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office spokesman Michael Edmondson said each police department decides how to handle such footage before a case goes to trial.Edmondson says the Jupiter Police Department hasn’t given prosecutors the videos investigators say include Kraft.Kraft was among hundreds of men charged in a crackdown on massage parlor prostitution and an investigation into human trafficking at Florida spas. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of misdemeanor solicitation of prostitution.
ORLANDO Trevon Wesco Buffalo Bills Jersey , Fla. (AP) — The Pro Bowl has long been considered a laughable representation of the NFL game.It reached a new level of comedy Sunday as several players swapped positions during the annual all-star game.Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey caught a touchdown pass in the final minute, capping a dominant performance for the AFC defense in a 26-7 victory over the NFC in steady rain. It was the third consecutive victory for the AFC, all of them at Camping World Stadium. The last two were played in sloppy weather, with the latest one also coming amid temperatures in the mid-50s. It was far from ideal conditions, raising speculation about the game’s future in Orlando, but fairly fitting considering the effort players provided. It was two-hand touch most of the day, with officials blowing plays dead at the slightest hint of contact.“Who cares, man?” New York Jets safety Jamal Adams said. “At the end of the day, we’re like little kids out there just playing in the mud, playing in the rain.”Regardless of the elements, the AFC made the plays the NFC didn’t.Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes completed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Indianapolis’ Eric Ebron on the opening possession, helping Mahomes earn the offensive Most Valuable Player award. Mahomes pleaded with voters to give it to Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman, who caught three passes for 92 yards and ran for a score.“Sherman had my vote. Sherman had my vote,” said Mahomes, who completed 7 of 14 passes for 156 yards. “I thought I told everybody on the camera. He made some plays out there. For a fullback, we have one of the best in the league so I’m always happy to try to get him a little vote like that.”Adams, who made headlines for sacking the New England Patriots mascot during a Pro Bowl skills competition, was named the defensive MVP thanks to an interception and a sack.“It’s a great achievement, but the main thing was to come out here and get the victory,” Adams said. “That was the main thing, just to get the money, man. That’s what we wanted.”Mahomes and Adams each got a luxury vehicle.AFC players will get $67,000 each for the victory Youth C.J. Mosley Jerseys , $8,000 more than the guys who lose the Super Bowl next week in Atlanta. The Pro Bowl losers will get $39,000 each. The AFC defenders earned their share of the pot. The conference allowed the NFC 148 total yards and 10 first downs while intercepting three passes and notching seven sacks.Ramsey got in on offense late, catching a 6-yard slant pass from Houston’s Deshaun Watson with 19 seconds remaining. Los Angeles Chargers rookie safety Derwin James failed to haul in the 2-point conversion.“Man, me and Deshaun, that’s my brother from another mother,” Ramsey said. “We’ve been plotting and scheming all week, manifesting, and it just came about.”New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott, Tampa Bay receiver Mike Evans and New Orleans’ Alvin Kamara all got in on defense for the NFC. Evans notched an interception. The AFC led 20-0 early in the fourth quarter, looking like it might record the first shutout in Pro Bowl history. But Dallas’ Dak Prescott found Atlanta’s Austin Hooper for a 20-yard score on fourth down with 9:09 remaining. The NFC had plenty of chances before that. The conference failed to score on a fourth-and-goal run early. Chicago’s Mitchell Trubisky, Minnesota receiver Adam Thielen and Prescott threw interceptions.Trubisky was sacked by Adams on a flea flicker, and Dallas’ Amari Cooper had a wide-open touchdown pass bounce off his face mask.Seattle’s Russell Wilson also was sacked four times.MASCOT MADNESSAdams’ hit on the Pats mascot went viral, leading to false reports about the guy being hospitalized.“It’s dying down now,” Adams said. “He never went to the hospital. They blew it up. It was all for the fans. I gained some fans and I gained some enemies, put it like that.”IN-GAME HIJINKSIndianapolis Colts tight end Eric Ebron had his phone tucked into the pocket of his sweatshirt and used it between the third and fourth quarters. Ebron took pics with opposing players, working his way around the entire NFC defense.ANOTHER NO-CALLAdams hugged a line judge who didn’t throw a flag on an obvious pass interference play against Green Bay receiver Davonte Adams. Davonte Adams dropped to the ground in disbelief, and several NFC teammates protested.Players from both conferences spent the week lamenting a now-infamous no-call in the NFC title game.INJURIESPittsburgh Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and Los Angeles Chargers receiver Keenan Allen left the game with bruised knees. Neither was considered serious, although Smith-Schuster was limping on the way to the bus and declined comment. Allen caught four passes for 95 yards before sitting out.UP NEXTNew England and the Los Angeles Rams play in the Super Bowl next Sunday. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Luke Falk was merely a practice squad quarterback a week ago, a guy whose name with which some New York Jets fans might not even have been familiar.Well, they all know it now. With Sam Darnold still sidelined by mononucleosis and Trevor Siemian out for the season with an ankle injury C.J. Mosley Jerseys Stitched , Falk is the Jets’ starting quarterback — and against the New England Patriots, of all opponents.“Yeah, it’s been a bit of a whirlwind, but it’s starting to slow down,” Falk said. “I’m excited for the opportunity. I just want to go out there and do my job and help my team win.”He’ll also have to do it against his childhood idol, Tom Brady. And, get this: Brady, of course, was taken with the 199th overall pick in the 2000 NFL draft. Last year, Falk was drafted by Tennessee at, yep, you guessed it: No. 199 — a fact not lost on the youngster.“It was kind of weird,” the 24-year-old Falk said with a smile. “I got my phone and I saw the Titans were pick (No.) 199 and I got a call from Tennessee around 196 and I was like, ‘No way,’ so it was pretty cool. I was just happy I got drafted.”He was among the Titans’ final camp cuts last year, and then claimed off waivers by Miami and then-coach Adam Gase. Falk was waived by the Dolphins in May, and Gase jumped at the chance to reunite with him in New York. Now, Falk will make his first NFL start against a team that has outscored opponents 76-3 in its first two games. He’ll also try to help prevent the Jets from falling into an 0-3 hole before entering their bye-week break.Nah, no pressure.“You have to realize it’s just football,” Falk said. “I’ve been playing this sport for a long time. Obviously, not at this level, but you have to keep simple things simple, go out and execute the game plan and put the ball in play.“Ultimately Youth Le’Veon Bell Jersey , you have to focus on the small things, not get too wrapped up in the whole big picture, I guess.”The Jets are massive underdogs against the Patriots, with the line growing to as many as 22½ points in some books, but Gase has no concerns about Falk maintaining his cool, calm demeanor.“Trust me, if you were around him, you wouldn’t worry about it,” Gase said. “It’s just the way he is. He’s built that way.”Falk is in this position because of a series of unexpected events over the past week. Darnold was diagnosed last week with mononucleosis, an illness that will keep him out for at least one more game. Siemian stepped in as the starter against Cleveland last Monday night, but was hurt in the second quarter.Falk stepped in — to chants of “Luuuuke!” at MetLife Stadium — and went 20 of 25 for 198 yards after replacing Siemian in the 23-3 loss. Only three of those passes went for 20 yards of more, including a 36-yarder to Robby Anderson, as Gase’s offense went to a mostly short passing game. But Falk still became just the third NFL quarterback since the 1970 merger to post at least an 80% completion rate in his first game with at least 20 attempts, joining Jacksonville’s Gardner Minshew (88.0%, 2019) and Philadelphia’s Nate Sudfeld (82.6%, 2017).“He has really good command, he’s an accurate passer, he knows how to get us in and out of the right plays,” offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said. “He did a nice job in the game.”Loggains didn’t anticipate using a reduced package of plays for Falk just because it’s his first start.“Luke had the advantage of sitting and watching a lot last year (in Miami) and going through another offseason of learning, and he’s going to be a step ahead because he’s been in the system longer than a lot of people on the roster right now,” Loggains said. “He’s been in it, he knows it.”Falk is also no stranger to beating the odds. The native of Logan, Utah Le’Veon Bell Jersey Stitched , was a walk-on at Washington State, redshirted his freshman year, and went from the backup to sudden starter in 2014 when Connor Halliday was injured. Falk then became one of the most prolific passers in college football over the next three seasons, finishing as the Pac-12’s career leader in touchdown passes, yards passing, completions, completion percentage and attempts.Despite the gaudy numbers and success in college, he lasted until the third day of the draft and was the ninth quarterback taken in that class.None of that matters now, of course. Not with a big game coming up against an AFC East rival.“We haven’t lost a beat with him, and I think that’s important,” center Ryan Kalil said. “You saw how he finished out the game the other day. I think he gives us a good shot of making some explosive plays and putting us in the right situations. He’s shown it all week, and we’re excited to get out there with him and see what he can do.”NOTES: LB Jordan Jenkins (calf) was listed as out, along with Darnold. … LB C.J. Mosley (groin), DL Quinnen Williams (ankle) and WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) are doubtful to play at New England. … LG Kelechi Osemele (knee), LT Kelvin Beachum, WR Josh Bellamy (shoulder), RG Brian Winters (shoulder), RB Trenton Cannon (ankle/hamstring), CB Brian Poole (groin), NT Steve McLendon (hip) and S Rontez Miles (hip) are all questionable. Osemele didn’t practice Friday, while all others were limited.
Minnesota Vikings Jerseys 2019 , Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has been on a roll as of late. Cousins has helped Minnesota win five of their last six games, been named NFC Offensive Player of the Month for October, and has a passer rating of 112.0 which puts him comfortably in third place in the National Football League. But according to Cousins’ ex-coach Mike Shanahan, Cousins new found success with the Vikings is because he now has the “right supporting cast.” (Yes, he actually said that.) Shanahan spoke to the Pioneer Press about Cousins, who he coached with the Washington Redskins for seven games, about what he felt Cousins was missing last season in Minnesota. When you look at his comment at face value, you can say with absolute certainty that he is wrong. Cousins had plenty of weapons to choose from, and he made use of them often. It wasn’t the best season, obviously, but there they did win with the weapons they had. But what I feel Shanahan is missing is that Cousins was in his first year with the Vikings. It does take some time to adjust to a new team and what they are doing. While that doesn’t take away from the missteps that Cousins had last year, to say he had no weapons is ridiculous.Shanahan did go on to say about weaponless Kirk, and something I do agree with Minnesota Vikings Jerseys 2019 , “Just take a look at the offensive line, to start with. (Cousins) had very little opportunity last year to have success with the way the offensive line played...” Minnesota has struggled to field a healthy and decent offensive line in recent years. That group having a better season is going to make Cousins feel more comfortable in the pocket and not have to feel like he has to throw the second the ball is snapped. But that’s just a small part of last year. The same weapons that were here then are here now.We don’t know why Cousins is doing exceptionally better from last year. Most will say it was the Chicago game and Stefon Diggs calling him out, or maybe he just found his confidence with team and himself. I personally don’t care. He’s doing better and so is the team so whatever it was, more power to it. But it definitely isn’t a lack of weapons. EAGAN, Minn. 鈥?The Minnesota Vikings have hit their familiar stride on defense during the second half of the season, after some uncharacteristic earlier struggles. There’s been no better example of this lately than Anthony Barr.“He’s always been a good player,” coach Mike Zimmer said. “I think he’s probably taking it to another level right now.”More Vikings coverageTop Tweets: Minnesota teams send best wishes to GophersVikings sign veteran guard KlineVikings agree to terms with kicker Dan BaileyVikings add RB depth, re-sign Ameer AbdullahFormer Vikings guard Easton agrees to four-year deal with SaintsBarr had two of聽the team’s nine sacks in the 41-17 victory over Miami last week聽, some obvious evidence of his value. The fifth-year outside linebacker, playing on an expiring contract, has often made an impact for the Vikings in ways that have stretched beyond basic statistics. The fact that he was picked for a fourth straight Pro Bowl, joining defensive end Danielle Hunter and safety Harrison Smith from the defense, with only 13陆 career sacks is a good place to start.“I do what I’m asked to do. Great player,’ this and that.”In the four-down-linemen scheme the Vikings have used under Zimmer, Barr’s position isn’t set up to produce league-leader-type numbers. He has progressed as a pass rusher to the point, though, where opponents are bracing for him to blitz whether or not he storms the backfield or drops back in coverage. Zimmer, who has been critical of Barr at times throughout his career, also complimented his advancements in communication, leadership and recognition on the field.“When you see him going downhill and working his pass-rush moves on people it’s hard to stop him,” Smith said. “He’s got the body of a D-end, but he can run about as well as our safeties. So he’s kind of got it all.”Barr missed three games with a hamstring injury. With Hunter, who’s tied for second in the NFL with 14陆 sacks now on the list, the Vikings have six players on defense who’ve been a Pro Bowl pick. They’re leading the league again on third downs with a 28.6 percent conversation rate allowed and are聽first with 47 sacks聽.“There tends to be always streaks here and there. GREEN BAY Brett Favre Jersey , Wis. (AP) — Going into his first practice as Packers head coach, Matt LaFleur is trying to downplay the past.At least a little bit.“I wanted to make it about these guys,” LaFleur said following Tuesday’s minicamp practice.“When you come to the Green Bay Packers, obviously, you respect the tradition, the history, but, for us and this football team, it’s about making history.“We’ll always pay credit and respect to what’s been done here in the past Paul Hornung Jersey , but it’s moving forward. And the expectation level is always going to be great in this organization, as it should be, and that’s really the vibe and what I want our guys to focus on.”After eight consecutive playoff berths, the Packers have fallen short of the postseason the past two seasons. After winning two MVP awards and challenging for a third in 2016 while propelling the team to the NFC championship game, quarterback Aaron Rodgers has struggled by his stellar standards.LaFleur has been busy putting his fingerprint on the team. It’s been small but noticeable things, such as painting the hallways and meeting rooms a bright white.“There was a lot of paint involved,” LaFleur joked. And it’s been big things, such as conducting a pre-draft minicamp and teaching a new offensive system.Tuesday’s practice was the first time the team hit the practice field since December.Only a fraction of the playbook has been installed, but Rodgers likes all the big plays he’s seen on video.“I think what every coach will do in this situation — and it happens whether you’re putting in new plays with the same system or when it’s wholesale changes — the clips that we’re seeing of this offense are big plays Bart Starr Jersey ,” Rodgers said.“They’re showing us these plays and Julio (Jones is) running 80 for a touchdown or hitting Santana Moss or DeSean Jackson for big plays. Those are exciting. You look at those and go, ‘Man, this offense is incredible.’ It’s obviously cherry-picked to look as good as possible. The plays look great on the film. It’s going to be incorporating them with the guys that we have and finding who those guys are who run those plays best and putting our best players in position to make an impact in the game.”Rodgers was in a playful mood, fielding questions about “Game of Thrones” and the Milwaukee Bucks — the NBA team for which he is a minority owner. After two difficult seasons for the Packers, LaFleur wants to make things fun again.“I think when you really sit down and think about it, whether you’re coaching in this league or whether you’re playing in this league, you’ve got to feel pretty fortunate that you’re in the position that you’re in,” LaFleur said.“So why not go to work every day and have fun with it? It does not need to be an uptight environment. We can certainly come in, get our work done Ray Nitschke Jersey , and have a ball doing it. So, it seems, is LaFleur’s approach to the team’s rich history.“I think the great thing about Matt is it’s been very clear messaging,” Rodgers said. “He’s been great in front of the room. It’s a forward focus. It’s about building today for a better tomorrow. He’s done a great job of talking about how the most important thing is us moving forward together and having a deference and appreciation for the past.“But, you know, it’s not like we haven’t won a Super Bowl in a while Dave Robinson Jersey , so that’s the goal, and it’s about doing things with this team right now. He threw out the first pitch at a charity softball game in a walking boot, using his injury (from a basketball game) as a motivational message. He has to stay off his foot now for four weeks, which he hopes means will allow him to be back in the boot and active when the Packers start training camp.

FOXBOROUGH Authentic Jarrett Stidham Jersey , Mass. (AP) — For each of the past two seasons, the identity of the Patriots defense didn’t become clear until late in the year. Both times the group had stumbles early, followed by steady improvement. Those leaps were aided at least in part by the increased contributions of newcomers or role players that previously had much smaller roles. That pattern is holding true in 2018 as the Patriots prepare for back-to-back road games at Miami and Pittsburgh that will go a long way in determining their playoff seeding.Earlier this season, New England’s opponents took advantage of a defense that struggled to get pressure up front and that was susceptible to giving up big plays in the secondary. After allowing 300 or more passing yards four times in its first seven games, New England (9-3) has not allowed a 300-yard passer in five straight games. It also has not allowed a 100-yard rusher in nine straight games, going back to Week 3 against the Lions when Kerryon Johnson did it.Those are important markers for a Patriots defense that has had trouble recently at Miami. New England is 17-7 against the Dolphins since 2007, but has lost four of its past five at Hard Rock Stadium.Ryan Tannehill threw for 350 yards and two TDs in the Dolphins’ 20-10 win in the 2015 regular-season finale in Miami. That came a season after Knowshon Moreno rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown in Miami’s 33-20 win to open the 2014 season. Tannehill had two touchdown passes in that game to help the Dolphins outscore the Patriots 23-0 in the second half.“It’s a week-to-week challenge in the season Jarrett Stidham Jersey Boys ,” Patriots Bill Belichick said of his defense’s evolving identity. “We haven’t established anything against Miami, so we’ll have to go down and do that on Sunday and we’ll see what happens. Certainly, they’ll be a big challenge for us.”Since allowing a season-high 40 points in their win over Kansas City in Week 6, only two teams have scored more than 17 against the Patriots over the past six games — Chicago (38-31 win over the Bears) and Tennessee (34-10 loss to the Titans). One reason the Patriots defense has tightened has been the improvement of the secondary. That has included key contributions from rookie cornerback J.C. Jackson, who has seen an increased role since Eric Rowe was placed on injured reserve at the end of October.Jackson has two interceptions and contributed to another in last week’s win over Minnesota, tipping Kirk Cousins’ pass into the hands of teammate Duron Harmon in the closing minutes.Linebackers coach Brian Flores, who is calling plays for the defense this season Infant Jarrett Stidham Jersey , said Jackson and fellow rookies Keion Crossen and Duke Dawson have earned the trust of their teammates through their work ethic off the field.Belichick said Jackson’s ball skills first caught their attention as an undrafted player in the spring.“He’s just been very dependable and gotten better every day. It’s not always perfect, but he learns from his mistakes and corrects things,” Belichick said. “It’s taken a little time for him to gain some experience, but he’s doing a good job with it.”Safety Devin McCourty said Jackson’s willingness to be on an island at times will serve him and the team well going forward.“I think we’re starting to feel it that he knows we believe in him,” McCourty said.“We know he’s talented and can play and we’ve got his back. … We had him in some tough situations where we were counting on him to make plays sometimes by himself with no help and he showed up. He had been doing that every time we gave him an opportunity to be out there.” When the Browns copied the Philly Special earlier this year, former Cleveland coach Hue Jackson tried to claim that they hadn’t. (Former Cleveland offensive coordinator Todd Haley blew Jackson’s cover, one of the tangible examples of the dysfunction that got both of them fired.) When the Saints scored the first touchdown of the game on Sunday night in Minnesota Jarrett Stidham Jersey Draft , New Orleans coach Sean Payton was copying a play that the Patriots had used a week earlier. And Payton wasn’t afraid to admit it. In fact, he was (and should be) proud of it.The touchdown came on a quick pass from quarterback Drew Brees to running back Alvin Kamara, who was crossing in front of Brees in motion, from left to right. The play, intended to be used close to the goal line, resulted in a score.鈥淭hat was a play seen the week before, Patriots vs. Bears Jarrett Stidham NFL Jersey ,鈥?Payton told Albert Breer of SI.com. 鈥淕reat idea. It fit with what we were doing and had nothing to do with the Vikings. And yet, it applied to their defensive structure. And so, certainly, most of the week is spent watching your opponent鈥檚 tape, and yet there鈥檚 still going to be a part of the week devoted to the league.鈥滻t’s nothing to be ashamed of. Preparing for a game entails so much more than studying the opponent’s film and self-scouting tendencies and tells. It requires applying a broad lens to everything happening in the league, because something someone else has done may be the perfect play to use against an upcoming foe.鈥淲e have to [do that]. Yeah, we have to Jarrett Stidham NFL Draft ,鈥?Payton said. 鈥淭he last thing you want is some trading tip that鈥檚 going hot on the floor, and you just didn鈥檛 pay attention to it, and everyone else is. Very quickly in our league, a new thought or an idea shows up.鈥滻t’s one of the reasons why coaches work so hard and sleep so little during the season. Every waking moment can (and should) be devoted to searching for anything and everything that can make a difference when it’s time to kick the ball and start playing. The coaches who make the most efficient use of that time are more likely to be successful and, ultimately, to remain employed in an industry where so many end up being fired.
arrived as an undrafted free agent and carries the not-so-fearsome nickname "Peanut."Playing the position formerly held by Ray Lewis and C.J. Mosley White Terrelle Pryor Sr. Jerseys , Patrick Onwuasor on Sunday wore the headset assigned to the leader of the defense. He performed precisely as expected, leading Baltimore with five tackles, including a sack, while anchoring a unit that allowed just 21 yards rushing in a 59-10 victory over Miami."He played really well. He was all over the field," coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday. "I thought he did a great job with some of the new things, in terms of handling the communication."Onwuasor represents the next generation of Baltimore's defense, which relies heavily upon speed and versatility. After 16-year veteran Terrell Suggs signed as a free agent with Arizona — whom the Ravens face this Sunday — the 36-year-old gave Onwuasor something to think about."He texted me and said, 'It's time for you guys to start your own legacy and start the new brand of Ravens football and continue to be what the Ravens are all about,'" Onwuasor said. It's been a heck of a journey for Onwuasor, who was bestowed the moniker "Peanut" as a child playing youth sports. Signed out of Portland State in 2016, he didn't survive Baltimore's final cut but was assigned to the practice squad.Promoted to the active roster in October, Onwuasor contributed on special teams and started one game as a rookie. In 2017, he stepped into a starting role as an outside linebacker and finished with 88 tackles, second-best on the team behind Mosley. The highlight of Onwuasor's third NFL season came in a must-win December game against the Los Angeles Chargers, when he had nine tackles Terrelle Pryor Sr. Jerseys 2019 , two sacks and a forced fumble in a 22-10 victory. Now, after the Ravens lost Mosley to free agency during the offseason, Onwuasor has stepped into the most important position on the Baltimore defense.Asked if he could have envisioned going from an undrafted free agent to this, Onwuasor answered, "I just knew I had a role, and whatever my role was, I was going to get the job done. Now this is my role, and I'm going to try to get it done."At 6-foot, 227 pounds, Onwuasor is a linebacker in the body of a safety. Actually, he was a safety at Portland State before the Ravens decided his speed would be best utilized inside. So they put then-linebacker coach Don "Wink" Martindale (who's now the defensive coordinator) on the case."The first thing 'Wink' told me was, 'Look, you've never played linebacker before. All I need you to do is fly around and be around the ball,'" Onwuasor recalled. "I did what he said, and it's paying off."He's not the biggest linebacker in the NFL White Rishard Matthews Jerseys , but Onwuasor might be one of the fastest."If you watch the Ravens play, the one guy that's always flying around is No. 48," Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey said. "He definitely works hard, but what makes him really elite is how fast he plays. That's who Peanut is." FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Bilal Powell might have played the last snap of his football career. The New York Jets running back needs surgery to repair a bulging disk in his neck, and coach Todd Bowles says it’s potentially a career-ending injury.“It’s possible,” Bowles said Wednesday. “We’ll see how the surgery goes.”Powell was placed on injured reserve after hurting his neck during a 2-yard run late in the second quarter of New York’s 37-17 loss to Minnesota. He remained down for a few moments as trainers checked on him before getting up and walking to the sideline and then to the locker room.Bowles says the injury is similar to the one that sidelined wide receiver Quincy Enunwa for all of last season, but adds that “this may be worse.”The playing future for Powell, the franchise’s 10th-leading rusher, was already uncertain before the grim news. He turns 30 on Saturday and is scheduled to be a free agent after this season.“Bilal’s one of the hardest workers on this team,” Bowles said. “It’s a big blow from that standpoint, but you worry more about the person and healing more than you do the football player. So, that’s where we’re at.”Powell has 3,446 yards rushing in eight seasons with the Jets, just 1 yard behind Adrian Murrell (3 Rishard Matthews Jerseys 2019 ,447, 1993-97) for ninth on the team’s career list.Powell is the team’s longest-tenured player after being drafted in the fourth round out of Louisville in 2011. He has provided the Jets with a dual-threat presence out of the backfield, catching 204 passes for 1,567 yards and five touchdowns. Powell had 11 receptions for 110 yards and a TD this season.“Yeah, man, it’s a sad thing to see that just because B.P. is so respected in this locker room,” quarterback Sam Darnold said. “He’s just such a great guy to have on the team. That’s first and foremost, but him as a player, he’s amazing as well. It sucks in general to see that happen to anyone, but especially B.P., it hurts a little bit.”The Jets could add another running back before their game Sunday at Chicago. Isaiah Crowell and rookie Trenton Cannon are the only players at the position, with De’Angelo Henderson on the practice squad. Elijah McGuire is still on injured reserve, working his way back from a foot injury suffered early in training camp. The team also has announced it signed safety Ibraheim Campbell, filling a need at another of the Jets’ injury-plagued positions.Campbell played in four games with Dallas this season after being claimed off waivers from Houston. The Cowboys waived him on Oct. 9.The Jets had only Jamal Adams and Terrence Brooks as healthy players at the safety position on the active roster. Starter Marcus Maye is sidelined with a broken right thumb and could miss a few more weeks, but was a limited participant at practice Wednesday — a sign of improvement. Doug Middleton White Avery Williamson Jerseys , Maye’s replacement, tore a pectoral muscle against the Vikings and was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.Rontez Miles remains on the physically unable to perform list since tearing the meniscus in one of his knees during the offseason. He was on the field during practice, but Bowles said Miles won’t be activated this week.Campbell was a fourth-round pick of Cleveland in 2015 out of Northwestern and played in 37 games, including 11 starts for the Browns. He was released with an injury settlement in 2017 and signed with Houston. The 26-year-old Campbell has 82 total tackles and one pass defensed in his NFL career.NOTES: Enunwa (sprained ankle), CB Trumaine Johnson (quadriceps), LB Darron Lee (illness), CB Morris Claiborne (shoulder/foot), C Spencer Long (knee/finger), WR Robby Anderson (ankle) and LT Kelvin Beachum (back) all did not practice. Johnson has missed the past three games, but says “I’ll be out there soon.” … CB Buster Skrine remains in concussion protocol, but practiced on a limited basis. … LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (foot) was also limited.

gets veteran minimum benefit The Green Bay Packers would have had to shell out $8 million per year for three years to match the contract that cornerback Bashaud Breeland reportedly agreed upon earlier this year. Those were the terms of the unofficial agreement that Breeland and the Carolina Panthers came to during the so-called “legal tampering” period before the official start of free agency. Then Kingsley Keke Jersey 2019 , Breeland had an incident in the Dominican Republic, a foot injury got infected, and he failed his physical. A $24 million deal vanished in the blink of an eye. Now he is a Green Bay Packer, as the team officially announced his signing on Wednesday. If Breeland is indeed fully recovered from that infection — and given how conservative the Packers’ medical staff is, that’s a strong likelihood if not a certainty — he’s going to be quite a bargain. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported on Wednesday that Breeland’s contract is for one year and $790,000, which is the minimum salary in 2018 for a player with four years of NFL experience. Demovsky added that the deal also includes a $90,000 bonus, which is paid out in three equal parts over the course of the regular season. Since three games are already gone, Breeland will earn 13/16 of that base salary and the full bonus, which comes out to $731,875.Less than three-quarters of a million bucks for a starting-caliber cornerback who drew more than ten times that on the open market? Well done, Brian Gutekunst and Russ Ball. But wait — there’s more.Breeland’s deal would actually cost the Packers even less against the salary cap. This is thanks to the NFL’s veteran minimum salary benefit rule, which incentivizes NFL teams to sign veteran players with four or more years of experience.Essentially, the rule says that if a veteran player signs a one-year contract for the veteran minimum base salary (which varies based on experience level) and that deal has no more than $90,000 in bonus money, the contract’s cap hit is reduced. In any of these situations, the number drops to the minimum salary for a two-year veteran, which in 2018 is $630,000. Again Color Rush Kingsley Keke Jersey , since the contract comes part-way into the season, it is prorated to reflect the number of games remaining, so cut that down by 3/16ths to a final number of $511,875.Head coach Mike McCarthy sounded thrilled about Breeland’s arrival in his Wednesday press conference. “He gives us experience,” McCarthy said, adding “I’m always interested in the ball skills of the defensive backs, and obviously he has that.” Indeed, Breeland recorded nine interceptions and 59 pass breakups in four years, adding seven forced fumbles as well.In what was perhaps a veiled shot at Ted Thompson and his unwillingness to look for veteran assistance for most of his tenure, McCarthy expanded when asked about some of the issues the team has had at cornerback in the past. “You can never have enough of any position and definitely the cornerback position has been a challenge for us,” he said. “We’ve struggled with depth the last few years, so the fact that we were able to bring in a veteran with experience is outstanding.”What is also outstanding is that the Packers were able to get him in the building cheaply, both in terms of cash and salary cap impact. Even without knowing who Brian Gutekunst adds in free agency, the composition of this draft class suits the Packers roster perfectly."The term “silly season” refers to the absurd things reported from anonymous sources, the smokescreens, and general obfuscation occurring around the league related to draft prospects. It’s equally applicable to the clich茅s thrown around this time of year. Many are phrases that have become so overused that they’ve lost any real meaning they had in the first place. Trying to project out player selection, before the combine and free agency, likewise falls into this category. It’s silly. On the other hand, it’s fun and if one accepts the silliness of the exercise, there’s genuine value in attempting to predict what types of players and player quality will be their when a team is picking. Given the shape of this draft Cheap Kingsley Keke Jersey , with a host of blue chip pass rushers, offensive-line depth, outstanding tight-end talent, and versatile safeties, the Green Bay Packers have a chance to fill myriad needs during draft week. With hundreds of players in the draft and dozens of picks being made, the possibilities for projection are practically endless. To demonstrate the immense flexibility the Packers will have come April given the makeup of this draft class, let’s separate the options into narrative categories and have some fun with it. Free agency likely won’t change much about how Brian Gutekunst and company view this draft, so even though that could change the relative need for certain positions, even signings likely won’t salve the long-term wounds on this roster. That has to come from drafting and development. Luckily for Green Bay, its front office has been one of the best in the business at that for years. All five options inject athleticism and play-making at key positions of need for the Packers while also offering value at their respective draft slots. Those values could change somewhat in the coming weeks with athletic testing and the inevitable injuries that crop up. The simple fact there are five wildly different, yet all potentially positive outcomes for Green Bay works to show just how ideally the strengths of this class match with the weaknesses for the current Packers team. Operation ‘Get Aaron Some Help’ 12. Jonah Williams, OT/G 30. Noah Fant, TE 44. Parris Campbell, WR 75. David Montgomery, RB For starters, this isn’t happening. That’s not the point of this exercise. Instead notice the immense amount of talent the Packers could infuse into their offense in a single draft. Williams, if he fell to 12, would be a no-brainer pick as Bryan Bulaga insurance even if Green Bay signed a free-agent guard. He could also come in and be a Day 1 starter at guard if Matt LaFleur wanted to go that route. Fant and Campbell offer athleticism and playmaking, with the ability to create chunk plays in this offense. Campbell could run sub-4.4 and Fant will likely be among the most athletic tight ends at the combine. While Montgomery would be a true luxury pick at 75, he’s an extremely talented back with wiggle and burst who could potentially be an upgrade over Jamaal Williams as the No. 2 in an Aaron Jones 1-2 punch. Finally Fix the Defense 12. Clelin Ferrell Kingsley Keke Jersey Womens , EDGE 30. Johnathan Abram, S 44. Mack Wilson, LB 75. Chase Winovich,EDGE Ted Thompson’s r茅sum茅 features drafts that look just like this. The Packers have previously dedicated swaths of picks to fixing a side of the ball or position groups. Thompson failing to properly fortify the defense, in part, led to his replacing last offseason. Here, Gutekunst follows the lead set by Thompson by doubling up at a need position, something we’ve already seen him do after last year’s cornerback bonanza. Ferrell may not be ideally suited to be a stand-up pass rusher, but if he tests well in Indy, could allay fears about his athletic gifts and the transition to a 3-4 pass rusher. Sandwiched between the pass rushers, the Packers could snag a pair of athletic overhang defenders who can run and cover. Wilson’s best traits are in coverage even if he’s inconsistent at this point. Abram offers speed, bone-rattling tackles, and much better coverage ability than most “enforcer” safeties. The Need Draft 12. Jachai Polite, EDGE 30. Dalton Risner, OT/G44. Nasir Adderley, S75. Dawson Knox, TEThis is where the “don’t draft for need” crowd has to pipe down. This draft sets up beautifully for the Packers to fill needs while also getting value at critical positions. They don’t have to reach to fill needs. Start with the guy who makes the most sense as a seamless fit into the defense at a premium position of need for the Packers. Polite shows twitch, bend, and impact play even if he’s a bit of splash player at this point. Pair him with a bulldog offensive tackle who could play right tackle or guard for the Packers and Green Bay immediately fortifies arguably its two biggest weaknesses with top picks. Adderley isn’t the true single-high centerfielder he’s been made out to be, but his coverage instincts are outstanding as a former corner and his athleticism is made for the modern NFL where he’ll be asked to cover deep third and halves Kingsley Keke Green Bay Packers Jersey , along with tight ends in the slot. Speaking of tight ends, Knox’s skillset fits congruently next to Jimmy Graham. Overlooked at Ole Miss, Knox makes his living as a blocker, but flashed impressive receiving skills. Let me block opposite Graham as he learns the NFL game, and let him blossom into a Heath Miller-esque option for Rodgers down the line. Let’s Get (A Little) Crazy 12. T.J. Hockenson, TE 30. Brian Burns, EDGE 44. A.J. Brown, WR75. Chris Lindstrom, OL Tight ends don’t go this high in the draft, but Hock has Big Draft talking about him like Rob Grokowski 2.0. Mel Kiper recently had him 6th on his overall board and with his combination of blocking and receiving skills, the leap to George Kittle in this Matt LaFleur offense shouldn’t be viewed as enormous. Burns checks every box of the kind of player the Packers like: he’s absurdly young, crazy long, and we’ll see on his athleticism in Indianapolis. He, like Polite, floats in and out of games at times, but his splash reps are as impressive as any pass rusher in the class. After that, it’s the Packers doing what the Packers do: draft receivers in the second round and convert guards to tackles. Brown, a size/speed monster, would be a luxury, but a welcome one for Rodgers. Pair him with Lindstrom Kingsley Keke Jersey 2019 , a tackle at Boston College who likely has to swing inside in the NFL and the Packers get to revamp the offense while adding a high-upside piece on defense. Goldilocks Zone 12. Montez Sweat, EDGE 30. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, S44. Irv Smith Jr., TE 75. Yodny Cajuste, OL Right now, before the combine and free agency, this is the sweet spot draft for the Packers. Sweat dominated in Mobile at the Senior Bowl, dovetailing with two outstanding seasons in the SEC. If he tests well, his frame, production, ability to punish offensive lineman with his powerful hands would be a welcome addition to the Packers pass rush. Gardner-Johnson may be the best true deep safety in the draft, even with a rough 2017 season as a tackler. His speed, agility, and coverage instincts are the best in the class. Snagging S1 at 30 would be a steal for Green Bay. Speaking of steals, Smith Jr. would be grand larceny at 44 with his blend of athletic tools and blocking prowess. He won’t be 21 until training camp and already proved himself worthy in the best conference in America as both a blocker and receiver. And much like Lindstrom, Cajuste is the prototype for the Packers. Take a college left tackle and let him play guard. He’s a mauler with questions about his feet. Put him at guard and he could be a starter right away for Green Bay.
upset with Hue Jackson after Jackson was fired as the team’s coach last season and went to work for the Bengals https://www.brownsfanshop.com , but he wasn’t alone in harboring bad feelings about the former coach.Tight end David Njoku was a guest on The Rich Eisen Show Tuesday and was asked whether Mayfield’s slam of Jackson following a game against the Bengals last season was a case of the quarterback speaking for the entire locker room.“Well, obviously we weren’t happy with what Hue said about us after he left. It is what it is,” Njoku said. “Baker didn’t appreciate it. We came together after Hue left and took it upon ourselves to work extra hard to finish the year strong. . . . Baker has a voice, as we all do, and he didn’t appreciate what happened. It’s not like we’re robots. We felt, in a way Browns Customized Color Rush Jerseys , disrespected. It is what it is.”The Browns responded well after Jackson was fired, but the same kind of in-season motivational boost isn’t expected this year. They’ll need to find something, though, because coming close to a winning record this year won’t be seen as the same kind of accomplishment. What a turn of events it has been for Freddie Kitchens.About the New HiringAccording to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Cleveland Browns are promoting Kitchens to be their new head coach on Wednesday. He will replace former head coach Hue Jackson and interim head coach Gregg Williams. The Baker Mayfield FactorWhen Kitchens took over the playcalling duties from the fired Todd Haley, the offense had a significant turnaround Cleveland Browns T-Shirts , and Baker Mayfield especially came alive. It was like the restraints had been taking off. Other things improved too — receivers stopped dropping passes, the running backs were hot, and the offensive line wasn’t allowing any sacks. Take a look at Mayfield’s productivity before and after the coaching changes:Gregg Williams is OUTIt appears that Gregg Williams’ time with the club will end, per Dan Graziano of ESPN.Was it the Right Move? This is from my perspective: after the firing of Hue Jackson and Todd Haley, we didn’t expect the club to have as great of a turnaround as they did. Gregg Williams deserves a lot of credit for keeping things together, but the real difference maker was Freddie Kitchens’ offensive playcalling. My mentality was “if Kitchens worked so well with Mayfield and the offense https://www.brownsfanshop.com/hats , then why the heck would we risk losing him?” If the Browns had hired a defensive coach and tried to retain Kitchens as their offensive coordinator, then you run the risk of losing Kitchens a year from now to another club. Yes, Cleveland may have accidentally stumbled into Kitchens as their top head coaching candidate, but who cares? If it works, it works.I don’t mind the team taking a different direction defensively. When I look at this season’s productivity, the unit was better than they were in 2017 Cleveland Browns Hoodie , particularly in the area of forcing turnovers. However, nothing was groundbreaking or innovative. Players like Emmanuel Ogbah and Jamie Collins underachieved. This seems like a good time to bring in a fresh mind defensively to see how their vision can improve the unit — because it’s not like it could get worse, really, with a coaching change. What Are Your Thoughts?

Chances of making the playoffs are slim.It appeared that most players had already left Lambeau Field by that point, with many Packers saying they had learned of the firing on social media or through text messages.“Found out probably the same way you did at the same time you did,” receiver Davante Adams said on Monday. “I was definitely surprised. But, it’s a business and business is business, and that’s what it is.”Rodgers was already home to celebrate his 35th birthday when he found out.“I’m sure I found out the same way that most of you found out,” Rodgers said, “and was just as shocked as many of you were.”He planned to reach out to McCarthy later Monday.“I think him and I, like any relationship, we have our amazing times http://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Jace-Sternberger-Jersey , we have our times where we butt heads,” Rodgers said. “But the basis, like I said, was built on mutual respect and communication. … We spent time together and growing our friendship and we accomplished a lot together.”From Adams to Rodgers, nearly every player in the locker room spoke highly of McCarthy, who overall had a successful tenure of 12-plus seasons highlighted by a Super Bowl win in the 2010 season. The 55-year-old McCarthy led the Packers to nine playoff appearances and four trips to the NFC title game overall. But offensive struggles this year followed a 2017 season in which Rodgers broke his right collarbone and the team missed the postseason. In 2016, the Packers started 4-6 before winning eight straight to get to the conference championship game.Murphy said it was time to make a change after the embarrassing loss to Arizona.“I don’t want to get into the details, but he was very professional,” Murphy said when asked how McCarthy reacted to his dismissal. “He’s a first-class person … and made a comment that, ‘It’s the coaching profession. I know what I got into when I became a coach.'”Gutekunst will be heavily involved, along with a committee, in hiring the next coach, though the decision will belong to Murphy, the highest-ranking executive in the NFL’s only publicly owned franchise. He adjusted the Packers’ organizational structure in January, when Gutekunst was promoted to replace Ted Thompson as GM, to have McCarthy report directly to the team president.“The structure, again, you’re focused on the structure,” Murphy said in response to one of several questions about how the Packers’ organizational flow chart could be perceived by potential coaching candidates. “The most important thing is the people and the relationships.“Brian and I have a great relationship,” Murphy said. “I think we’ll be in good shape, and I’m confident we’ll be able to hire an excellent coach.”Murphy has more football experience than the average team president, having played safety under Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs for the Washington Redskins. Also a lawyer Elgton Jenkins Jersey , Murphy had extensive experience in sports administration before becoming Packers president/CEO in 2007. He was athletic director at Northwestern, where he hired coach Pat Fitzgerald, before coming to Green Bay.Murphy also views Philbin as a candidate. He would like to evaluate the veteran assistant and former Dolphins head coach over the next four weeks.Off the field, the move to dismiss McCarthy gave the Packers an early start on the coaching search. Murphy and Gutekunst offered few specifics when asked what they were looking for in the next coach, other than that would the team would wait until after the season to make a hire.“I think this decision was about changing our course more than anything,” Gutekunst said. “We just felt like it was a time to change the course.” Once is an accident, twice is a trend. Or something.Regardless, Broncos pass rushers Von Miller and Bradley Chubb have yet to achieve the primary goal of pass rushing in 120 minutes of 2019 football. On Wednesday, coach Vic Fangio was asked whether he’s concerned about the lack of sacks through two games.“Not at this point,” Fangio told reporters. “The only thing I will say is I was disappointed in our rush in the last drive [against the Bears], but prior to that in these first two games they’ve been unusual games as it related to pass rush.”Unusual or not, Fangio conceded on Thursday that Miller is getting frustrated.“I’m sure he is,” Fangio said. “I’m sure he lets you guys and everybody else and himself get into his head a little bit, but I’ve talked to him about that. Hopefully, he listens to me more than the thousands others.”Fangio said that, unlike Miller, Chubb isn’t frustrated, so far.“I don’t feel it the same,” Fangio said. “I don’t think Chubb’s there yet. I think he’s fine.”The Broncos get their next chance to get their first sack of the season on Sunday against the Packers. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is mobile and agile and elusive, and that result in even more frustration if the defense can’t get him onto the ground.
of the season in this week 5 game Marvin Harrison Color Rush Jersey , and they’ll do it in less than ideal circumstances. With a roster that is depleted by injuries and a defense that has played well below expectations, the Colts will travel to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that, even absent their best receiver, has been unstoppable on offense. This Colts team struggled against the Chiefs in Arrowhead in the playoffs last year with Andrew Luck under center. It stands to reason that with Jacoby Brissett leading this offense and a defense that hasn’t been nearly as effective this season, this team shouldn’t stand a chance. However, what I want to do here is put on a slightly rose-colored pair of glasses and view this situation through an optimistic lens. What would it take from this team to get a win, and how improbable is that to expect? OffensePhoto by Brett Carlsen/Getty ImagesThe Colts offense has actually been pretty solid through the first quarter of the season. Despite losing a top five quarterback and struggling with drops, they’ve still managed to rank 6th in the league in offensive DVOA. The balanced attack from this offense and Frank Reich’s master class of play calling so far this season has been one of the primary reasons for their success, and they rank 4th in offensive Drive Success Rate, just two spots behind the Chiefs. If you don’t know what that is or why it matters, it is spelled out wonderfully here.If you watched the film of the Colts against the Raiders, you might be concerned about their ability to run the ball given some struggles on the interior of the offensive line with Ryan Kelly and Mark Glowinski. I talked about this on the most recent Stampede Radio episode, but I expect Kelly to bounce back in a big way this week. He is one of the best centers in football and had an awful game. That happens sometimes, and the guy was sick during the week leading up to the game. Clearly that impact was felt last Sunday. The result was an inability to run the ball, which cost them dearly with T.Y. Hilton out. I don’t anticipate a repeat. This offense was stymied in Arrowhead last year, and given the mentality of the guys in that locker room, they won’t be okay with that happening again. Frank Reich will be ready with his game plan, and I expect this offense to move the ball effectively from the jump via the run. There is a clear roadmap to win this game from the offensive side. If they are able to run the ball like they did in week 1, they’ll likely ride that as much as possible. It makes for long, grinding drives that wear down the defense, and it keeps Patrick Mahomes on the sideline. The Colts averaging 4-5 yards per carry and running the ball 35-40 times on Sunday night, is the best formula possible for a win on the road. If they find that kind of success on the ground, it will open up options in the passing game and keep the playbook unpredictable. When Frank Reich consistently can work from short down and distance situations he is, in my opinion, the best offensive play caller in football. Those situations allow for easy reads for Jacoby Brissett and let the receivers make plays after the catch. Most importantly, they’ll need to end every offensive drive with points, and they’ll need to be aggressive about it from the very start. There is a caveat to all this. Two very key players in this game on the offensive side of the ball are T.Y. Hilton and Marlon Mack. If both aren’t healthy enough to play and play at a high level, this offense is going to have virtually no shot to scrape out a win. Their availability is no sure thing, as so far neither has practiced this week. A win against a team this good on the road is tough enough, but without your two most significant offensive skill players? Not possible. All the Colts can do on that front is keep their fingers crossed.DefensePhoto by Peter G. Aiken/Getty ImagesThe Colts defense on the whole wasn’t great in 2018. They gave up a lot of yards and were susceptible to long, agonizing drives when they faced quarterbacks capable of picking apart their zone coverage. As our own Zach Hicks noted https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Tarell-Basham-Jersey , this team doesn’t really use its corners to get physical at the line of scrimmage. They don’t do much to disrupt the timing of receivers, and the results speak for themselves. What was different last season from this one, is that the Colts weren’t giving up big plays. They were more than capable against the run, and clamped down on teams in the red zone. This year? Football Outsiders ranks them dead last against the run. They aren’t much better against the pass either, coming in at 24th. Worst of all, they rank 31st in red zone defense, allowing touchdowns on 75% of their opponents’ trips there. That isn’t winning football. Their weakness against the run isn’t of the highest concern, because the Chiefs simply don’t need to rely on being balanced. That isn’t to say they can’t run the ball at all, but their passing attack is so prolific that they can pretty much find ways to decimate their opponents without using the run all that much. Despite missing Tyreek Hill, the passing attack hasn’t missed a beat. Sammy Watkins, Travis Kelce, and Demarcus Robinson are all on pace for 1000-yard receiving seasons and have 7 touchdowns between the three of them. Rookie Mecole Hardman has added another 2 and offers a similar type of threat that Hill did.The long and short here is that we should expect the Chiefs to score points. Their worst performance so far this season saw them put up 28, and they did that all in one quarter. So what chance does this defense have?First, Matt Eberflus has to be aggressive. They have to get to Patrick Mahomes early and often. The good news there is they should have Jabaal Sheard back as healthy as he’s been all season, which is no small thing. They’ll need Denico Autry to be the best version of himself, and Justin Houston going on a tear would be great as well. Every quarterback, even one as good as Patrick Mahomes, plays worse with pressure in their face. Next, they need far better play from their linebackers. That is another area of good news, because Darius Leonard seems to be progressing through concussion protocol and should return to play. They can’t give up huge plays over the middle in the passing game, or let Lesean McCoy and Damien Williams get going in the running game. Preventing that starts up front but how the linebackers play will make a big difference there too. In the defensive backfield is the biggest test of all. This is a team that will eat them alive if they depend on playing soft zone coverage, or off-man. The corners will need to be physical with the receivers, and they need to be aggressive. In those situations where they have to make a decision about whether to go for the pass breakup or go for the pick, the decision has to be to try for the takeaway. If they enter this game with the mentality that they’re going to take the ball away, it gives them their best chance at a win.Special TeamsPhoto by Bobby Ellis/Getty ImagesIf I am Frank Reich, I enter this game with punting removed from my play sheet. With the exception of possibly having the ball in your own red zone and in a 4th and more than 10 situation, I’m not sure it makes sense to punt the ball at all. In the event that they do have to punt, they need to cover perfectly, and Rigoberto Sanchez has to be excellent. To have any kind of chance at all, special teams has to be flawless. Adam Vinatieri needs to be perfect as well. He looked good in his return to Lucas Oil Stadium after a dreadful start to the season, but he won’t be getting any standing ovations at Arrowhead, and the pressure will be on him. As with punting Tyquan Lewis Jersey , kicking field goals should pretty much be ruled out in this game. The Colts need to score touchdowns to hang with the Chiefs. That doesn’t let Vinny off the hook though. They’ll need him to hit his extra points, a thing that was once a lock. ConclusionSo how probable is all this? Obviously not very. The Chiefs have a very good offense, and the Colts defense hasn’t proven able to stop good quarterbacks. While they have been efficient on offense, there is no guarantee that T.Y. Hilton or Marlon Mack will be able to play Sunday. Without Hilton, Mack, or Darius Leonard on defense, this team’s chances are simply too slim to realistically expect a win. However, this is the NFL. It is a game of inches.Frank Reich isn’t afraid of this Chiefs team. He will have his team prepared to go on Sunday night. They will have a chance to make a statement to the league in prime time, and prove they are a team to be reckoned with. With excellent execution and a whole lot of luck, maybe, just maybe, they come out of Arrowhead with a win. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 137 yards and the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, and the Dallas Cowboys hung on for a 24-22 wild-card win over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night. The playoff win by the Cowboys (11-6) was the first for Elliott and quarterback Dak Prescott on their second try after losing a divisional game as rookies two years ago. Dallas will play either New Orleans or the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round next weekend. The loss ended a run of nine straight victories in playoff openers for the Seahawks (10-7). The Elias Sports Bureau says it was the longest streak in NFL history.Dallas’ defense, ranked in the top 10 most of the season, mostly kept quarterback Russell Wilson under control and handed him his first loss in four wild-card games. It was the eighth win in nine games for the Cowboys.Prescott, the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2016 when the Cowboys lost to Green Bay at home as the top seed in the NFC, threw for 226 yards and had a 1-yard sneak for what appeared to be a clinching score before Tyler Lockett’s 53-yard catch set up a quick Seattle touchdown.Wilson’s 7-yard scoring pass to J.D. McKissic got the Seahawks within four, and they made it a two-point game on their second 2-point conversion following an injury to kicker Sebastian Janikowski. But the missing kicker left the Seahawks no good options on an onside kick with 1:18 remaining. Punter Michael Dickson’s drop kick was caught by Cole Beasley at the Dallas 31, sealing the first playoff win for the Cowboys since beating Detroit in the wild-card round in the 2014 season.COLTS 21, TEXANS 7HOUSTON (AP) — Andrew Luck threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns and Indianapolis raced out to a big lead and cruised over Houston in the wild-card game.Luck put on a show in his hometown, throwing for 191 yards and two touchdowns before halftime to help the Colts (11-6) build a 21-0 lead.Running back Marlon Mack had 148 yards and a touchdown for Indianapolis, which advances to face the top-seeded Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round next weekend.Houston (11-6), which overcame a 0-3 start to win the AFC South, gave up too many big plays and couldn’t get anything going on offense in the first half to fall into the huge hole.Deshaun Watson, who was sacked an NFL-leading 62 times in the regular season, was sacked three times and hit eight more times in a disappointing playoff debut. He finished with 235 yards passing with a touchdown and an interception. The Colts, who opened the season 1-5, continued an impressive run by winning their fifth straight and for the 10th time in 11 games. Saturday was their first playoff appearance since the AFC championship game loss at New England in the “Deflategate” game in the 2014 season.
deep passing. According to Next Gen Stats Garoppolo finished 3/18 for 59 yards and an interception on pass attempts thrown ten or more yards down field. Here’s a chart which shows the location of everypass he attempted. That red dot represents Quandre Diggs’ interception. That’s not the play by Diggs I want to highlight though. Before we look at that let’s evaluate Diggs’ talent and see how he fits into Seattle’s scheme.Consider these parallels to the player Diggs is indirectly replacing.Earl Thomas’s performance at the combine:Diggs’:Both Thomas and Diggs were rated as four-star prospects by Rivals Brett Hundley Color Rush Jersey , and both received a Rivals Rank of 5.9. Both played defensive back at Texas. Both were considered safety/corner tweeners by NFL talent evaluators. Thomas was quicker and had the better overall athletic profile, but it’s close. Diggs is the younger brother of Quentin Jammer. Prior to a game Thomas liked (likes?) to eat a pickle and a watermelon slush but presumably not a pickle and watermelon slush. Their pro careers are not really comparable, either. Thomas has been transcendentally great. Diggs has split time as a backup and starter, but maybe he’s finally found a home. And maybe having finally found a home, a role which fits his skill set, he may finally unlock his true potential. We won’t know for a long time, but let’s get hype anyway. Why not? We’ve a week to dream on and nothing but crappier teams to watch, and so let us look at a decidedly Earl Thomas kind of play from Diggs.Circled we see Matt Breida Richard Sherman Color Rush Jersey , reigning fastest player in the NFL, and Quandre Diggs.Breida recorded the fastest top speed in the NFL in 2018, at 22.09 miles per hour. He surpassed that in 2019, hitting 22.3 miles per hour, and again tops the NFL in that stat. I would guess Tyreek Hill is faster but he hasn’t been faster in over two years.Diggs will tackle Breida after Breida gains seven yards. It’s a negative EPA play, but it’s beautiful and it very well may have saved Seattle from yielding the touchdown. Diggs is lightning fast in his read. Here we see the pitch has not yet reached Breida, but Diggs is already planting and closing toward the ball carrier.Diggs angle of pursuit is nearly perfect. That’s best shown in this video.Your browser does not support HTML5 video. He evades the unintentional pick sent by K.J. Wright to not just form tackle Breida, but to run him out of bounds preventing further gain.Consider the outcome of this play if Diggs had not been present. Wright is beat to the outside. Maybe he is able to slow Breida. Marquise Goodwin has inside position on Tre Flowers and a very sound looking block. Flowers was still entangled with Goodwin as Diggs was driving Breida out of bounds. Even if he was able to get free Duane Brown Color Rush Jersey , Flowers has missed one in eight tackle attempts. (Which isn’t too bad.) This play is very possibly one Diggs’ tackle from being a touchdown. Allowing seven yards on first and ten from the San Francisco 37 cost Seattle 0.4 EPA, but stopping Breida from housing it saved Seattle 5.2 EPA. It saved Seattle non-theoretical points, six of them.Next season Diggs’ cap number jumps from 1.6 million to 5.2 million. Earl Thomas, by contrast, will cost 15 million against the cap in 2020. Diggs will rank behind Bradley McDougald as the 24th highest paid safety in the NFL. If he’s bad, it’s no bargain. If he’s only serviceable, it still cramps the cap. But if his performance Monday was any indication, in which Diggs played a lot of free safety K.J. Wright Color Rush Jersey , the Seahawks shutdown the San Francisco 49ers deep passing game, and Diggs himself contributed the above saving tackle to go with an interception, Seattle has added a long missing foundational piece at a relative bargain. The Seattle Seahawks are struggling badly against the San Francisco 49ers in the first half of a game that would net them a playoff berth with a win. With the defense playing poorly, this injury news will not help matters. Bradley McDougald is doubtful to return after hurting his knee.McDougald, who already forced a fumble in the opening quarter, has been battling a knee injury all year and “doubtful” to return could mean something more serious. Shalom Luani, Delano Hill, and Tedric Thompson are the only healthy safeties the rest of the year.Long-term Bobby Wagner Color Rush Jersey , if McDougald’s injury is serious, it would be a huge blow to the Seahawks defense to lose one of its best starters. Both Thompson and Hill have been picked on by 49ers QB Nick Mullens throughout the afternoon, which is a bad sign considering they play the Kansas City Chiefs next weekend.Seattle currently trails the 49ers 14-13 in the 2nd quarter.
